Hello. I am a new transfer student to baruch this spring semester and am very lost and frustrated. I received an orientation appointment for early this week while school starts next week… I have been calling them for weeks asking why I’m not getting my invitation… ( I can’t register for any classes because my account was on a hold, therefore blocked, because they said I needed to go to orientation first in order to register) .
So, I am VERY bad in math and didn’t do so good on my math placement exam, so I have to a take a remedial math. I am trying to go into Zicklin business, and need to take pre reqs before i get accepted in, but I can’t take any of them because I don’t have pre calc. Out of those classes, there were about four classes I was qualified to take, but already took those in my previous cuny school. So I met with an advisor and she said I don’t really have much of a choice, which made me frustrated and pissed… it’s not like I don’t want to go to school, but I feel like I am limited to my choices especially because my orientation had to be this week! I already replied that I was going to go to this school, paid my deposit and took the test way back in November!
So my only option now is to take five classes in order to be eligible for financial aid. I have the no credit math class, and an English class that I have to take that counts towards my major, but now I am left with three classes. I think the only other way to do this is to take classes for my minor now, but I have been able to find only two classes of the three that fulfills the minor, which leaves me with one class. I am also confused because at orientation, they said that I don’t need to take the two classes for minor, only the last one which is a 4000 level course. I was able to snatch up a 4000 level class in contemporary literature that didn’t need pre reqs, but would that count as towards my major…?
I plan on going back to Baruch on Monday, but I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that could give me an answer while I wait…
I don’t even know if this is the right section, and if not, apologies.
