Many questions about transferring to Baruch. Any one can help?

Hi guys!
I have questions about transferring to Baruch college.
I know the process of transferring to other college is complicated.
And One thing I worried the most the the credits! I aim to graduate within three years and I know it will be more difficult to achieve this goal if I choose to transfer to another college.
I did some research on the Baruch core curriculum and I don't know how does it work when they transfer my credits? By the way, I'm currently studying in the other 4-year CUNY college.
Like one of their requirement is to finish English writing, which is similar to the English class I am having now. But what I'm worried about is that Baruch just transfer the credit but still ask me to retake the English class. Many other example like this, the name and content of the class is not 100% the same. I am guessing they will just transfer some of the credits. And then ask me to retake those classes. Is my guessing right?

And if I have already took the ACT test in CUNY. Do I have to retake it when I transfer to Baruch? And same to the high school transcript and SAT score which I submitted when I applied to CUNY. Will they keep this record?

I don't know if I should in my current college because everyone said Baruch is the place for business student. I once think that as long as I keep my GPA high enough I will be fine but now I have different thinking. But then, transferring to Baruch means my GAP will get reset and the freshman year is the year to get high score. I will have more difficult time to maintain my GPA on average......

All I concerned about is getting internship and graduate within 3 years. I know I asked a lot of questions. But I would really appreciate if anyone could give me any advices.

Hi Mandy, I am a student at Baruch and I am on track to graduate in three years.

Your concerns:

Baruch is a business school and requires two sets of requirements. One are called GEs which are just requirements you need to graduate, and the rest are Pre-reqs for the business school.

To get into the business school you need to take

1) Financial acc 101 (Acc 2101)
2) LAW 1101 (bus law)
3) 2000-level math course
4) STA 2000 (business stats)
5) CIS 2200 (Computer class)
6) Micro 1101
7) Macro 1101
8) English 2150

To get into Baruch all you need to do is get a english, stats class and a basic math class done.
Baruch gives three kinds of “credit”.

1) CR -> This means no credits are given, but you can skip the class.
2) Credits + CR -> Credits are given, AND you can skip the class
3) Elective -> Credits are given, but no class can be skipped.

Baruch is generally VERY liberal with these requirements, if you take an english class it will satisfy the english requirement.

You do not need to retake the ACT.

Internships are relatively easy to come by. The course rigor at Baruch is pretty easy…I have a 3.8 (One C in Bio) and I don’t have to put in too much effort. To graduate in three years is a bit more difficult. Here is how I’m on track.

1) Came in with 12 AP credits
2) 23 credits in fall
3) 15 Credits in spring
4) 3 credits in Summer
5) 21 credits in fall

This gives me 74 credits which puts me on track to graduate in another 1.5 years. Just work hard and you’ll do great.

Simply enough go to tipps.cuny.edu
go to course equivalencies
than where it says transferring from put your current school
and transferring to Baruch
click continue
next is a list of all courses offer at your school and put in the ones you have taken and
click see courses
and it will tell you if it transfers or not

CUNY keeps all records within the system so there is nothing to worry about

Thank you so much, Vakov and Stargurl93!
Your advice actually helps me a lot!!!
I still have some questions like is there any restrictions for how many classes the student can take per semester? I know in Baruch, students need to get a permission first…Is that hard to get a permission? And the classes we need to take before going to business school, do we just need to take the class or get a certain grade? something Like at least C?

You can take up to 18 credits without credit overload. Any more than that and you will have to seek permission. This isn’t hard to get provided you have decent grades. In regards to Zicklin, yes you must pass them all and average greater than a 2.25 I believe (maybe a 2.5) which is a combo of C’s and B’s.

Yakov

In order to get permission to take more than 18 credits, you need to see the dean of students and have a 3.5

wow…it’s really a big difference between 2.5 and 3.5… ^^"

Anyway, thank you so much!
