What courses did you take, or plan to take, your freshman year? Is it true that freshmen usually take only one science course their first year such as Intro to Biol as opposed to taking Chemistry or another science as well? Were your other classes just the courses used to satisfy the Core Curriculum, basic requirements for graduation? I'm asking because I was told that it was 'unusual' to take more than one science course Freshman year, which I think otherwise. I am only scheduled to take an Intro Biol class during the first semester and I thought that Biol. majors would be required to take more.

<---- bio major :)

I took Bio101, Chem 101, and two classes to fill distributions my first and second semester freshman year. Chem 101 was a requirement of the bio department though. That was the norm at my school it seemed...I think it's better to get the distributions out of the way earlier so you don't have to worry about them later.

Sophomore year I jumped headlong into Bio, with three courses satisfying the major requirement both semesters. I'll be a junior this fall, and will probably take three again, plus a math that I should take for grad school.

I don't think it's unusual at all to take more then one - just check out the prereqs first though - Bio 101 may be needed to take higher level courses (certainly 300 and 400 level, but possibly not 200 level or various "seminar" courses). Good luck :)

I'm an E with BioE, not a bio major, but you can certainly survive more than one science class freshman year. My freshman year I took:

Physics: Mechanics
Calculus
Engineering of Compartment Systems
Design Nature
Writing Lab
Genre and the Arts
Physics: Electricity and Magnetism
Vector Calculus
Engineering of Distributed Systems
Principles of Modern Biology
E!
