I’ll be off to CalDay on the weekend. I’ll probably get to the campus by 7:45AM as the event starts at 8AM. Is there a “best” place to park on campus or should I avoid the campus congestion and just park at a pay lot in town?
Our go-to lot near the school is on Durant (near Telegraph) - fairly reasonable, and seemed to have spots. I do not know how many people will have come from out of town on Friday and taking up spots, however. Parking Panda still has a couple of lots left to reserve parking (7:30am) on that day if you’d like to pre-reserve a spot.
We have also just BART’d up and then walked from the Downtown Berkeley station (on Shattuck).
if you’re going to drive, come early, say before 8:00am and you should be able to get parking. It’s free at all the public parking lots around the campus for Cal Day, until 4pm. I would probably just park at the big parking lot by the football stadium on Piedmont Ave, or maybe the La Loma parking structure on Hearst and La Loma. The Durant and Telegraph parking lot mentioned above is really good too for going to the south side dorms and also to the Student Union and Sproul. It might help if you narrow down the places where you think you might be going (the schedule should be out already), but I suspect that you’ll be all over the campus, so parking location might not matter.
We’ll be headed to the stadium first because I belive the opening address from the chancellor will be there at 8AM. That lot ob Piedmont sounds like the lot we used when we took the tour that started at the Koret visitor center. We’ll be going everywhere on CalDay so it probably doesn’t matter where we park, I’m just looking to keep the stress levels low.
@LMK5 yep that undoubtedly would be the same parking lot. I would just use that one then since it’s the biggest lot.
Sorry, I didn’t give much thought to where OP’s day would start - we didn’t do Cal Day when D was admitted, so I just went with what was close to southside housing and Sather Gate.
