Hey,
I have a question for Canadians at U of Chicago because other people do not seem to be able to answer this question. My question is how do canadian grades on the american grade system of 4.0 GPA... Here, 80 plus is A and i have two 80-85.. 3 85-90 and 1 90+... So basically all As and i am in IB so it is harder than normal Canadian schools. how do i look? .. what kind of grades did you Canadians have when entering U of Chicago? Does A mean automatically 4.0 GPA?? Thanks for your help!!

Hey mashrur,

Here's the admissions page on international students:
University of Chicago College Admissions | International Applicants

I didn't see a part of the website that explains conversion scales or what range in the Canadian system Chicago students draw from. Chicago does not report its average GPA for domestic applicants, so in this case it's not like domestic students are at a distinct advantage here either.

Here's what I can say:
1. The rigor of your courseload and your school will work in your favor.
2. Does your school rank? If not, do you have a sense of where you stand? About 86% of admitted applicants are in the top 10% of their class (out of the 65% or so that come from high schools that provide a rank).
3. Have you taken other standardized tests, like the ACT and SAT? Chicago's midranges on the ACT have been something like 28-33, and on the SAT something like 1310-1540

This question came up on a thread somewhere earlier, and Canadian students said that they report their average out of 100 rather than converting it over to the American scale. If you have questions regarding grade reporting, it's probably best to consult your guidance counselor who knows more about how to apply to American universities.
