Hey,
I have a question for Canadians at Williams because other people do not seem to be able to answer this question. My question is how do canadian grades on the american grade system of 4.0 GPA... Here, 80 plus is A and i have two 80-85.. 3 85-90 and 1 90+... So basically all As and i am in IB so it is harder than normal Canadian schools. how do i look? .. what kind of grades did you Canadians have when entering Williams? Does A mean automatically 4.0 GPA?? Thanks for your help!!

mashrur: I am not Canadian, nor is my S, a Williams student, but I can say that the Admissions Office is very adept at translating grades. They will understand what your grades mean.

Hey, I'm also in IB and studying in Canada and its really hard to get anything over 90 here..my grades basically did a little bungee jump once I joined the program. So I'd say our A is worth roughly as much as their A, even though the percentage marks are lower. I'm trusting the Williams admissions to, like other top schools, be aware of these discrepancies. Cheers.

Don't worry about it. Most often school counsellors will also include information about grade distribution in your year or something to that effect so the colleges you're applying to will have a better idea at how well you're doing in comparison to your peers, not in terms of absolute number or even GPA. That said, ranking and course rigor in many cases are more important than getting a 4.0 per se, whether in Canadian or American standards.
