My son has a 2.9 gpa and a 1670 on the SAT. Is there a chance at all? We are from So Cal.

I would say no. The GPA is lower than their standards, in which case they would be looking for a higher ACT/SAT score. That SAT translates into about a 24, where Ohio State would be looking more for about a 26-29. Unless he has any special circumstances…

NO.

Ohio State has an admissions formula, and your son would not make the cut. Unfortunate, but true, as I have a friend that had similar stats and was rejected. However, he could attend a branch campus and transfer in a year or so, which is actually a very popular option for many incoming undergraduate students.

Middle 50% on the ACT is 27-31.

Only 7% score 24 or below. Without some stellar grades/class rank and other mitigating factors, it’s going to be hard to overcome the test score. He does have geographic diversity in his favor, but I think he’d need a little more (African-American or first generation college student) to outweight the SAT.

Yes, that’s what I figured…thanks for the info.

Well I just applied there, I think if he retakes the SAT or takes the ACT and scores better he will have a shot, (but I am not too certain).
