alright so i just got back my GCE-O level results and i'm applying to colleges now. kinda late, i know, but i didn't really have a choice. anw, my results are as follows:

e maths: B3
english: A2 (taken in 2008)
principles of accounts: A2
chemistry: B4
physics: B3
geography: E8

applying for engineering. just took my SAT reasoning on the 23rd of jan, expect to get 2xxx. any recommendations ?? i don't need any financial assistance. btw, i studied in a private school, so no extra curricular achievements either. everything was more or less self-study. and how will they look at using 2 certs to apply ?? since my english score is on a seperate cert since i took it in 2008. do i have to explain the e8 for geography ??

ISU only looks at your academic records and test scores, so there is no need to send letter of recommendation or join any extracurricular activity.
I think they might not be familiar with the grading system, so explain it.
I don’t understand much about your grades, but if your SAT really is 2***, I think you are in.

hmm the problem is i myself am not sure how to explain it lol. coz i’m not sure how O levels compare to an american high school’s GPA system. its a real headache =/

I don’t think you have to convert it into the US scale, especially if it is a big disadvantage. If you can’t, ask your counselor. Class rank is also very important when ISU is not familiar to your system, so make sure that you (or your teacher/counselor) mention your class rank and the rigor of the curriculum, or anything that make you shine, in the explanatory letter.

i’m from a private school, we don’t really have class rankings here. thats the problem. their website states that they accept O levels for applicants from singapore, but the thing is i’m not sure exactly what kind of results theyre looking for…

Then just mention an estimated number (top 5%, or 10%, etc)
Why don’t you email them and ask? Anyway I still think you had better explain it. Endeavoring to raise your chance is worth it.

i’m not sure whether its necessary lol. its already on their website that they accept O level applicants so i’m sure they’re roughly aware of what its equivalent to. but frankly, asking them whether my grades are sufficient sounds kinda stupid which is why i’m asking here lol

I’m not familiar to O-level, so I thought yours was somewhat different from the normal one (“how will they look at using 2 certs to apply ?? since my english score is on a seperate cert since i took it in 2008. do i have to explain the e8 for geography ??” —> if that was normal then why asked? :D). But if it’s like what you say, then don’t worry, I think they have already been aware of the system.
Anyway if there is anything abnormal, I think you should email them and ask. I did once, and got the reply pretty quickly (a day or so) :)
