Hi actually I am posting for my brother.

He is currently an International Student at CMU doing Electrical Engineering and going to be a sophomore next fall. He have been getting 4.0 in both the semester in his freshmen year. Does he have any chance of getting into MIT or Stanford? Is there anything that can help boost his chance?

have a shot.
4.0 at CMU really means something

Yes, a solid chance. I personally know 1 of the 20 transfers from the 2007 transfer class and got to meet 5 more at an Honors Symposium. Two of them were international, which says to me that it is a prized commodity. However, just being international is not enough, and just being smart is not enough - really show some passion and flair in the essay process. Stanford in particular looks at the whole person and for what kind of intensity and personality the applicant will bring to the campus.

Show a playful curiosity, or intense but approachable intelligence, or an extra-curricular that is really different (one of the internationals was a male from an Asian country and was a cheerleader).

In short, it sounds like your brother has the beginnings of a hook (international) and the brains -- he just has to package himself as someone Stanford "must" have in terms of a whole person that is unique and yet wants and is able to add something to the community.

Good luck,
