Hi, I'm applying to the Smeal College of Business, but I've been having trouble gauging whether I'll get in or not.
My SAT scores are (from my best sitting date because that's what Penn State takes):
Math - 690
Writing - 620
Reading - 550 (was a 600 when I took it last but I did a complete flip flop for some reason)

SATII:
Math II: 710
Physics: 660

My GPA unweighted is a 3.37/4
and weighted is a 5.82/7
Class Rank: 36/351 (10.26%)

I've done Hockey Club, DECA, and Soccer over there years but I'm not confident that I can get in to Smeal.
Thanks for your input

I don’t understand how your GPA is calculated. A 3.37/4 would be 84%; 5.82/7 is 83%. Typically a weighted GPA would still be out of 4, resulting in a higher average.

The unweighted is based solely on grade (A=4, B=3 etc.) but our weighted is out of 7 because an A in an AP or H class equals a 7. A D in an Remedial class (our lowest level) is equal to a 2. If that makes sense.

I assume you looked at the other thread about the new “bubble chart.” Your 1860 combined SAT and 3.37 GPA seem to put you on the lower end of the “yellow” area. In the yellow area your are likely to be offered admission to a branch campus but could be admitted to main campus based on other factors. Your Math SAT II is a good number. They might look at the “rigor” of your curriculum, i.e. did you take AP courses and how did you do in them? I’m guessing because your weighted GPA is not better than your unweighted GPA you either did not take AP classes, or did not do as well in them?

This year is the first year I’m taking any AP classes (3 of them, Stat, Calc, and Physics) so my weighted will go up because I should do well in them, but not before an admission decision is made. I really didn’t do myself any good by not taking AP classes before. I did not see this bubble chart though I’ll be sure to look at that, thanks.
