Any Chance?

I’m currently going to City College of San Francisco in SF looking to transfer to Cal Poly SLO for Business Admin in Fall of 2015. I’m at CCSF now, and will be doing concurrent classes at both CCSF and Napa Valley College working to finish up requirements, but I am kind of between a rock and a hard place. I thought I would have the summer to finish classes to be used for my application but as we all know that’s not true. I’ll be taking 19 units next semester and that would still leave me short just one GE requirement and one business requirement, which is calculus, which I would take both of in the summer.

Is it even worth applying? Do I have any sort of realistic chance of making it?

Other info:

College GPA: Around a 3.5
HS GPA: Somewhere between 3.0-3.49
No ACT/SAT
I have business experience, having owned a business the last 5+ years.

I’m also a disabled combat veteran that has had service around the world.

I’d have over 76 semester credits, not including what I would take in summer.

I’m 28 and at this stage of my life I’d hate to go to a school I didn’t want to go to just because I could get in, but I’d also hate having to wait until Fall 2016 because of basically one class, calculus. I know some might say to just take calculus this spring, but calculus coupled with Business Law, Statistics, Microeconomics, Managerial Accounting, Poli Sci, and a lab, just isn’t feasible.

Any advice or guidance is helpful. I know being a veteran, and a disabled one at that, can certainly improve my chances, but I’m just worried about not having one business requirement completed.

Thanks.

I assumed there’d be some portion of an essay included in the application process, but I was wrong. I’m assuming hardships I face (like being a disabled veteran) wouldn’t work much in my favor.

I do have a question about the “transfer supplemental” portion of the application. Do I need to list EVERYTHING under each applicable space? Like, if I received a bad grade in a psych class that I took 10 years ago, is it necessary that I include it?

Again, open to any guidance or advice anyone may have. Especially interested in hearing what type of chances I may have without getting my calculus on there for spring. My app will show that I plan on taking it over summer, but the transfer supplemental portion won’t include it as that portion specifically states to not include classes done in summer before the fall term you wish to transfer.

Thanks!

You do need to report all your grades, no matter how old.

Transferring into SLO is really competitive. According to this:
<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions;
they accepted just 189 business transfers last year. The avg GPA was 3.54 suggesting that you have a shot but, even a little below avg doesn’t bode well for you.

I don’t know how being a disabled version will impact a transfer ap.

You are probably very competitive for many of the UCs, Apply to SDSU, UCD and CSULB too.

The disabled part will have no impact, but being a Calfornia Veteran will give your application a big boost. Transferring is very competitive though. Apply, but make sure you also have alternatives you’d be happy with just in case. Good luck!
