Any Chance?

I know I probably don’t belong in this forum but I guess I am curious to see if it’s even worth my time to apply and spend the $80 on the application fee. I would be applying to CALS as a biochemistry major. (unless I am better off applying elsewhere there)

My stats:
29 ACT (Below 25th percentile I know)
wGPA 4.12
uGPA 3.84

I have tried to take the hardest classes possible offered from my school
When I graduate I will have taken 7 total AP classes,

  • Chemistry, Biology, Language, Literature, World History, US Gov, Stats,
and then I am taking CIS Calc 1 through the University of Minnesota (credit transferable anywhere)
I have taken 9 honors classes total (most I could take freshman year was 3)
I volunteer at a homeless shelter weekly and I also volunteer at the hospital
I am the vice president of our newly formed multicultural club.
I am on our science club and FIRST robotics team
I have participated in 2 mission trips through my school ( 1 to Alabama through habitat for humanity, the other through Healing Haiti…in Haiti)

A couple people have gotten into Cornell from my school but that was a few years ago. I also flew out and visited on one of their major shadow days.

I should also mention I was adopted from Russia when I was a child. I grew up there for a short time and then came to the US. My adoption has had a major influence on my life and how I look at it.

A friend of mine and I are trying to start up this program in our school where only students are able to get in contact with our school’s alumni who are in the medical field. We are doing this so those who are interested can build the relationships and connections they will need to be successful in their careers. It’s something small but in hopes of leaving a legacy behind.

I know I sit on the lower side of the entire spectrum but if it’s worth it for me to apply I would certainly like to know. Thanks for your help everyone!

P.S if anyone has any questions I would be glad to answer them.

Sincerely,

   A curious Midwest senior

I should probably mention I am also in NHS and part of my schools honor society as well

@henxnr. my daughter applied last year with a wGPA of 3.73 and a 31 ACT. She is currently a freshman at Cornell. If I had posted her stats I am sure many would have said Cornell is a reach, but there she is. Don’t make the process more complicated than it needs to be. If Cornell is your 1st choice, apply ED. Yes the 29 ACT is below the norm, but maybe the committee reviewing your application sees something in you that makes them want you on their campus in the fall. Good luck!

@kidodie Thank you very much for the input
