Any Chances at UC Schools?!

@DrGoogle What changes were made to the new budget plan? I dont really wanna read the 214 page published report.

Last year, they were in negotiation with governor Brown. So they as in the UC colleges accept a lower amount. This year they have finished the negotiation and got $100 million from the state. So numbers of acceptance should be stable this year,

@DrGoogle If CSE is competitive, then why are there only 40 applicants at UCI and all 40 got accepted? If it is completive, which is the best engineering major I have a shot at… I am interested in all engineering except (Civil, Environmental, Biomed, and Materials). Thanks

Also, my counselor gave me access to a website called Naviance, but how do I use it to my advantage, if you know what this is.
Thanks

are you sure because my counselor said that’s AFTER you get accepted since before that the grades are all just self-reported

Post #22, are you referring to your naviance? Naviance doesn’t show major.

@DrGoogle yes, naviance I am not sure how to use it to my advantage. Like what is the purpose of naviance?

@“aunt bea” with those stats do you think there would be any major to which id have a solid shot at getting in to the aforementioned schools

If your stats show that it’s a green then you have a chance. But you don’t know for sure they apply to a competitive major. Check out for the majors of each school carefully. For example with UCLA and within engineering, CS is more competitive then CSE. There is no way naviance will tell you. It doesn’t show a difference between ECs and essays. So it’s a rough estimate. Plus it doesn’t show SAT subject test either.
I’m not sure what you can do to show advantage.

@DrGoogle mine just shows n/a next to the chance of admission. I’m not sure I know how to use it. Are there any tutorials?

There is a school list, pick a school and then click on the scatter gram. Base on your stats, if it’s a green dot then you should, in theory, get in. If it’s a red dot or check then your stats, base on your stats alone, it’s your reach.

I think you would have a better chance at the Cal States. You could try CPP, but again, that major is impacted throughout the state.

@DrGoogle where is the scatter plot? I clicked on UCI and I don’t see where there is a scatter plot, I just see general info admissions financial aid majors student life.

On the left side of naviance there are lots of things, just click on them. I don’t have access to them anymore so I don’t remember exactly. Just spend some time and play around with them. Click everything and see. If not ask your counselor how to use it. I taught myself how to use it so it’s not hard.

  1. USC- Reach
  2. UCI- low match (cosmos will help)
  3. UCSD- high reach( highly impacted major)
  4. UCLA- out of reach (Average UW GPA is around 3.95)
  5. UCB- out of reach (same as LA)
  6. UCSB- match
  7. UCD- match

I agree with @spamuser.
