Any current Manhattanville students out there?

My son is considering attending Manhattanville, in part because of a large merit scholarship combined with strong LD support. However, we found the admissions process a little chaotic (they kept losing forms and then finding them!) but he did like the school overall.

I'm a bit concerned to read that their president suddenly resigned at the end of last year, and that her 2 year presidency was controversial. They have an interim president right now.

Are there any current Manhattanville students on CC? I'm wondering if the administration of the school is generally chaotic or whether we just had bad luck with Admissions.

Hello:

I am currently a senior at Manhattanville so I am happy to provide some primary information on the college. Firstly, I love the school, its location is certainly ideal and the campus is beautiful. Furthermore, the faculty -especially in the History department- are absolutely amazing! I figure it might be easier to list some positives and negatives regarding Manhattanville:

PROS:

Campus
Faculty
Location
Student-Faculty relationships
Class size (I’ve had classes with 5 people and the largest 30)

Cons:

There is a rather large portion of the student population that should not have graduated high school let alone be attending college.
Dorms are reminiscent of communist Russia.
Food choices are limited. (you can choose between at off-strip style buffet or a generic-brand food court with 3 windows)

As for the president situation, Molly (as most refer to our former administrator) from what I understand tended to be uncompromising with other members of the faculty so much so that a number of popular faculty members left the college leading to her unpopularity among the student population and eventually her ultimate resignation. Our interim president however, is absolutely amazing, he is already revamping our school for the better and judging by his record, having transformed Harvey Mudd College into one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, something I feel he will do for Manhattanville.

As for the administrators, they tend to be pretty well organized from my experience, although I suppose it depends on the office, I don’t hear the best regards for members of the admissions department, however, my experience of working with financial aid and student accounts have been great. So, I think you shouldn’t have to worry.

Finally, is your son an athlete? Manhattanville is very passionate about its athletes.

Hope this helps! ( :
