Came in the mail today, got the big D - Deferred. :(

I’ve been looking for stats on students being deferred and then accepted, so if anyone knows anything please post - Thanks.

There are many scholarships! A few people got smaller scholarships and stuff. Department scholarships will be awarded later as well!!!

Also, big scholarships will be offered later!

My daughter received acceptance today with Provost Scholarship.
ACT 32 Composite
GPA 4.0/4.0
Rank 20/480

For anyone out there who got deferred, did you get a letter just saying you were deferred into the regular decision pool, or did you get the application update form where SMU encourages you to submit fall senior grades and answer some questions?

Correction to my post on 12/21. The provost scholarship letter was behind the acceptance letter. Just discovered it last night when we reopened the package to read the letter. Does anyone know when or how the decision on BBA Scholars is made? The BBA Scholars designation, they explained, invites one to enter the Cox School of Business as a freshman.

Accepted
Founder’s Scholar recipient ($15,000 per year)

SAT: 1510/2240 (super scores)
GPA: 3.56 unweighted
my school doesn’t rank

just got an email from UPS says SMU internatioanl office is sending me a package.
Hope my admission letter will be in there!!! What a great Christmas eve gift!
post my status when I receive the package on 29th.

Does anyone know when the admissions day is going to be? Thank you!

Got in with Founder’s Scholarship
ACT 33
SAT 680 800 800
SAT2 800 800 800 math, chemistry physics
GPA 3.92

I wonder why they didn’t say anything about which college I got into. And I don’t know whether they are going to send me info. about president’s scholarship, since I’m international student.

About the departmental scholarships, can someone tell me a bit about them? Around how much are they for and how hard are they to get? Also, if i never received a scholarship in my acceptance packet, does that mean I can’t still be offered one later on?

Departmental scholarships vary in amount, but I would say a lot of them are about $5000. You should start finding out in January or February if you are getting/being considered for one. You can still be considered even if you didn’t get notification in the initial packet. Congrats again to all!

My son received the same email people talked about. But, the same evening, he got a phone call from his admissions representative informing him that he had been admitted with a scholarship and that the details would be arriving with his letter. He got the blue envelope a few days later, and it included the Provost Scholarship information. We were still a little confused, though, about his status for the Meadows School of the Arts. He had to submit a portfolio for Meadows. I left a message for them on the 23rd, asking if the admissions letter meant he was admitted to Meadows and for the program he wants – BFA/MIT (5 years). The next day, he received another really nice letter from Meadows telling him he’d been admitted and that he is being considered for 2 other scholarships. It also included a handwritten note from an official at Meadows giving him some additional information about some inroads she had made on his behalf with the MIT program.

We have been very, very impressed with the personal attention my son has received from SMU. Our daughter applied to 10 colleges 3 years ago, and none supplied the kind of personal attention my son as received from SMU. I contacted Meadows when my husband was ready to take our son to Dallas for a visit in November. They asked what he wanted to see and do and what he was interested in. Then, they arranged a complete itinerary that made sure he got to do/see everything he wanted, including a portfolio review. He also had an hour-long interview with his admissions representative that included the parents. We thought it was a great experience.

Keep up the great work, SMU!

Wow. Congratulations to your son, bubblemom, and to you, his parents!

I am so glad that you all had such a wonderful experience. One of my sons is at Meadows and absolutely loves it there. We are all AMAZED at what a great fit it is for him, in every regard. He’s a sophomore now, and we’re still noting new things all the time that make this school such a perfect fit for this very lucky “kid.” He’s having the time of his life – and we marvel at the incredible opportunities he has, within the school and within the community, as a “mere” sophomore, thanks to SMU and the Meadows School of the Arts.

I’m happy for you at this exciting time! :)

I got accepted days ago w/ the Founder’s scholarship ($15k). I’m from Birmingham AL.

weighted GPA: 4.2
ACT: 33
SAT: 2110
Also NMSF, treasurer of national honor society, student government, environmental research experience, etc.

I was wondering about the chances for additional scholarships too. In my admissions interview I was told that there’s essentially a “scholarship train” in which different scholarship committees review qualified applicants for various scholarships and pass the applications along down the line. Also the website says Presidential Scholarship (which is the biggest one I think) notifies recipients in the spring.

My question is about the honors program. Has anyone gotten invited? When do they do that? I got accepted to 3 other EA schools (Colorado College, Seattle U w $16k/yr, and Northeastern U w $20k/yr + admission to the honors program) so I’m feeling alright about my application and I’m hoping I’ll still get invited…if anyone knows anything please let me know!

I didn’t get my Honors Program letters until like March (that was two years ago).

Just got an invitation to Honors Program in the email!!!
A little earlier than I expected

I was told by my counselor that president scholarship candidates have already been notified!

Im in and have been admitted to the pre law scholars program

From a private school in Maryland
