Any experience with admissions to Columbia General Studies appreciated

Hello!
I am going into college in Fall 2015, upon my separation from the military.
The number one school I am looking into is Columbia GS.
Like the title states, if anyone has anything to tell about their experience applying to GS I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you =)

Your best bet is to connect with them in person at one of their information sessions.

They will be likely to give you pretty decent (if still somewhat veiled) feedback about your chances, and in my own experience they go beyond the readily-available information on the GS website to help you specifically with your own application circumstances and timeline. I’m currently in the application process myself and that 1-hour session was entirely worth the time spent.

Here’s GS dean Peter Awn commenting on how they handle interested GS applicants:
“When you contact us—and we try to make you contact us—we want to have at least one or two initial engagements to help you decide, is it really worth applying? The last thing we want is a pointless application. So we want to convince you not to apply if we don’t think you’ve got a good shot at getting in. So getting thousands and thousands of applications is not to our benefit. We want to be engaged with applications that are seriously viable.”

p.s. GS has its own board here now, so you can probably get some feedback from current students by posting there.

I just retired from the military and applied to GS Columbia, I can tell you that a great essay can get you noticed. I was accepted as a transfer student for spring 2015. Good luck to you!
