Any feedback on CSSSA/Innerspark/CalArts summer program

Hi everyone -
My son was accepted to both the CSSSA/Innerspark/CalArts Theatre summer program as well as the UArts Musical Theatre pre-college program. He's a rising junior and very individualistic. We're trying to decide which is the better choice. I posted more on this in the Musical Theatre forum:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1141394-advice-summer-programs-uarts-vs-csssa-innerspark-calarts.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1141394-advice-summer-programs-uarts-vs-csssa-innerspark-calarts.html</a></p>

I've gotten feedback on UArts on that forum, but would appreciate hearing any thoughts about the California summer program. Has anyone attended or had a child who did?

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

My son did CSSSA when he was a rising 9th grader. It was also at CalArts. A few things to keep in mind: Valencia, where CalArts is located, is extremely hot in the summer. Over 100 degrees a lot of the time. There seemed to be plenty of air conditioning everywhere, though. My son had a great experience, but he was not a musical theater guy, but rather a straight theater person. Perhaps because he was younger than your son would be, it was a very eye opening social experience for him to be in a suite with three and three guys and shared bathroom. As far as the program itself, it was a while ago and I know it was intense and good but he was frankly too young to get the most out of it.

If you are a CA resident, it’s a real bargain. If not, I personally would go for the more urban experience at UArts, especially if they have a dedicated MT program if that is what your son’s passion is. CSSSA is full of creative kids from all disciplines, so it’s an invigorating environment, but I’m sure UArts is too. If you have specific questions about CSSSA please feel free to PM me.

I personal attened CSSSA Inner Spark, i believe my Sophomore year goin to Junior in high school.
It was the best expierence of my life! I loves every minute of it, and i encourage you to have you son go there.
It gave a sence to college life with the dorms and haveing to be responsable, and i regret 100% not goin a second time when I had the chance.
I do not know one person who went that didnt love it, it was amazing.
