Any funny/embarrassing interview stories?

I feel like most people who visited more than a couple schools must have some kind of mildly embarrassing story from the process…

Personally, I was getting something from the car at a certain school (the rest of my family was in the admissions office) and, of course, I managed to set off the alarm. Panicked, because I didn’t have the keys to shut it off, I ran inside to find my mom. As luck would have it, I ran into the wrong building. Frantic, I rushed back outside, and called my mom to come help. As the AO who interviewed me would later tell my parents, they saw everything…

Lol funny story @emro12. when I was at my last interview at Exeter, I got some hot chocolate while sitting on the couch , and accidentally spilled it all over the floor. I tried to clean it as fast as possible without anyone seeing, but with my luck I ended up slipping and making a lot of noise. It turned out fine though since my interviewer and I just laughed about it.

When I was at my first interview, I wore my glasses to look more “intellectual.” I ended up getting so nervous that my cheeks got warm, making my glasses fog up in the middle of our conversations. :)) I tried to act cool while I casually took them off, and it looking back on it, it was definitely not my finest moment…

I made the mistake of wearing shorts during my skype interview and it was at nearly midnight; could not help shivering the entire time, and I probably sounded ridiculously nervous WHOOPS

At Choate I had a cup of water while I was waiting to help my cough, but I ended up spilling it down the front of my shirt. I went to the bathroom to try to dry it up, but it still looked wet and the AO was waiting for me… The interview actually went pretty well though, so I don’t think it messed anything up.

We talked about The Office.

@GrotonKid123 @funinthesun Totally relate-I can be prone to spills, and I remember caaaaarefully drinking a cup of coffee at St. Paul’s and just thinking, “don’t drip, don’t drip, please don’t drip…” :))

@snapchat Well, anything to set yourself apart, right? lol

@emro12 I guess. All of my interviews were laid back. My parents told me to make coffee at SPS and I was so careful not to spill anything.

I talked a lot about Harry Potter with one interviewer.

I talked about The Three Laws of Robotics with my interviewer(s?)

I talked about birds with one of my interviewers.

There was an old thread about awkward interviews, which went on for several years.

And here is the original post that kicked it all off. One of the funniest things I have ever read on CC:

I actually laughed out loud at that story, @hebegebe, thanks for sharing- any idea if that person got into Swarthmore? :))

Have no idea about whether she was accepted to Swarthmore. I think she ended up at Rice, so she did fine.

@hebegebe I read through a few pages of that thread and there are some really funny stories on there! Thanks for posting!

I love that thread, thanks for sharing it, probably the funniest thing I’ve read all day

So I was interviewed by an alumni of one of the schools I applied to. I got there early. A few minutes later, I had to go to the restroom. That very moment I went inside the stall, the alumni arrived. My mom had to burst into the bathroom and drag me out.

The worst part was, it was a really quiet library and everyone gave us odd looks. I was mortified and quickly turned into a tomato. Not the best first impression.

did anyone else have those awkward moments when they sounded like the most scripted applicant ever, or was it just me?

@willmo I felt like that was my NMH interview. I am not very confident in my chances there
