Just curious if any high school drop outs ended up getting into GS.
Long story short, I had a really terrible GPA, like probably 1.6 but it’s been a few years so I don’t really remember. Never finished HS but I’ll be getting my GED next month. So far have a 4.0 after 3 semesters at a CC, so it’s going well for me so far. I know the website says that usually people with a GED have professional experience but how professional are we talking here? I did general loss prevention work for a company for a few years, then took up a plumbing apprenticeship while keeping my loss prevention job. I eventually left my plumbing job to go back to school, left my loss prevention job after my first semester and started a commercial plumbing company with my father. Since then we’ve been doing our own jobs while I attend school full time.
I guess this isn’t really a “chance me” because only admissions knows how I’ll do, but if anyone else has been in the same situation I’d love some advice, thank you.
I dropped out, had a worse high school GPA, got my GED, am currently at a CC, and was accepted for this fall 2018. I’ve only ever worked in restaurants and warehouses.
As long as you keep up the good work and explain your shortcomings in a way that shows how much you learned from them and how they contributed to your success now, you will get in.
@Dreams1st
Hey! Thanks for replying.
Congrats on getting accepted, your story is really inspiring to me. May I ask if you participated in any ECs as well? I feel like those are my shortcomings that I can still change.
I’m a member of phi theta kappa and I was told GS really like that society ( and gs offers the ptk scholarship). If you aren’t already I highly recommend joining.
Besides that, I participated in a social action club at my school. Little time for anything else. I would definitely try to join something, especially something that relates to what you will be studying.
Definitely spend the most time on your essay though. And get close to your professors now so they will write awesome recs.
Dropped out of both HS and CommColl. Just graduated from GS this sem. It’s doable. GS is very much not about your failures, but your triumphs and resiliency rebounding from them.
I’m also an HS dropout and I’m attending GS this fall! I’d love to hear more about your experience, @EmprssTheodora!
