Any history or poli sci majors out there?

I am planning to major in one of these or both majors. I am thinking of going to law school, or a post grad major related to public affairs etc.
How are the professors in general in these departments and how do they grade. I am recieved 5's on all my AP's in US History, European history, AP US Gov and Policy I am trying to decide between Fordham, University of Illinois @ Urbana ( because of it's great disablity support, I am severly physically disabled.. but still got it upstairs), SUNY Binghmaton and SUNY Albany. I am only asking about academics and how are the classess?

Thanks in advance

Hey okwjoe, I'm surprised you didn't receive any replies yet.

I'm a poli sci major, and though I love history, I am not going to major in it. I can tell you though that the poli sci professors here are great. Great is probably an understatement. In my freshman year, my Intro to Politics professor impressed me so much with her intelligent lectures and turned me on to poli sci as a major. Of course, it helps that I'm naturally interested in the subject.

If you apply to LC, I recommend professor De Luca. I'm taking him right now and he's just amazing. His lectures really make you rethink what you've been taught to think.

If you need more details, feel free to contact me. Good luck with your college search!

Hi aaabbb~
I thought poli sci majors went to the RH campus but I see you are at LC? Did you have choice between the two? Thanks.

kmaqmom,

Yep, LC does offer political science as well. I was never at RH, I applied and was admitted straight to LC.

LC pretty much has all the majors that RH offers although the departments are a bit smaller than what you would find at RH, but of course, no less awesome. The only three majors I'm aware of LC not offering are natural science, business and music.

I've taken three poli sci courses so far and I'd say that the professors are all engaging and assign a fair amount of work. All of the courses that I've taken put emphasis on discussion about the topics at hand using material which past political thinkers had written about.

Thanks for all the great info, aaabbb. My D was accepted at RH and would also be a poli sci major. I guess I assumed that all poli sci was at RH although I think she would love LC also.
joe, which campus would you be at?

its hit and miss, like ALL schools. Some really WONDERFUL profs out there and some dogs.

Having a PhD does NOT guarantee you can teach or are a fair and kind person.

I am a poli sci major at LC. The professors here are great but because rh is bigger, there are more classes and professors there. Therefore, most lc students take at least one or two classes at rh during their college career. What is great about lc is that it is right next to the law school and in the prime location for traveling to internships, etc. On the down side, lc has very few activities and the activities they do have are small. Rose hill has more clubs and organizations for politically active students to get involved in.
Regardless of what campus you chose, I think Fordham far beats the other schools you mentioned and I sincerely recommend coming here. Good Luck!
