Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the poli sci program at Fordham (LC). I know its catholic but is the program more left or right-leaning? Also, is it worth it to go to Fordham as a poli sci major? Thank you!!
Fordham is fairly left for a catholic college bc of it ties to NYC, it is not cheap but has a good rep and very good aluminums support in metro NY.
Hey, I have a few questions as well. How involved are students with politics-- is the program competitive, or would I really be only one of a few at Fordham pursuing politics?
I’m considering this or some schools in DC, so I know that those are extremely involved politically. I think I want an atmosphere like that.
@iniem1 - Fordham is much more involved in local politics vs say a school in DC, you make great connections esp with their access to the UN. I do not think you would be a fish out of water in studying politics at Fordham, but NY politics are very different than DC politics.
@NJdad07090- Thank you so much for the response. My goal is to eventually work in American politics, but with an emphasis on foreign relations. With UN, I’m sure I would learn a lot, but yes, it wold be a very different experience. Again, thank you.
I’ll say that LC is super left-leaning, and RH is still pretty liberal but definitely has a more conservative faction on campus. Poli Sci is a pretty common major - I think one of the biggest behind Communications and English. There are a ton of internship opportunities in New York with local politics and the UN, plus think tanks, NGOs, and organizations like that. If you want to do national stuff, then D.C. would be ideal, but New York is definitely great for international politics and foreign relations
