Bump those SATs up a little.

don't apply - 0 chance

Apply and you have a shot. Nobody is perfect and if you stress your strong work ethic, passions, etc in your essays you have a shot. Upward trends are a sign of a great student, especially your 52 rank jump. Keep it up, get better SAT scores, better grades, and you have a good chance.

thanks...I will try as hard as I can...I know that my chances will be slim to many of the good schools, anyhow,I will still apply to them (getting the satisfaction that I tried) but I still have some time.

does anyone know what the essay prompts are. I am going to work on all that application stuff for all my schools in the summer.

also..I want to do business.

One suggestion- look at the academic and EC status of those who got accepted this year. Try to parrel their grades and EC. Thats what i will be trying to do of the next 3 highschool years ahead of me.

Good Luck!

anybody get in with my stats? I was looking throught the other threads and saw that 2300 sat scores were rejected. I am scared for next year.

Shadman:

"try to parallel their grades and ECs"

Depends what you mean.

If you mean "follow your OWN ideas, your OWN ECs, your OWN studies with imagination, passsion, intensity, conviction, purpose"--very good!

If you mean: "take 10 APs, be in science competitions, help out in Central America because Mary did those things and she got in"--you are on the wrong track.

As you can see. SAT's are only a SMALL part of the process. It might surprise you that your character/personal qualities outweight EVERYTHING and that the interview is just as important as SAT/rank/etc.

how do I cal my gpa? if I use my schools method, it would be a 3.35 uw.
if I use the method A=4, B=3, C=2, then my gpa would be a 3.64?
how should I look at my gpa?

Ignore GPA.

Try to maintain a B+ average or higher UW.

does anyone know what the essay prompts are. I am going to work on all that application stuff for all my schools in the summer.

If you set up an account at MyMIT, you'll see the prompts and the rest of the application as soon as they're posted, usually in early summer.

what would that be under? for the app. it says wait till late summer

Do I have a realistic chance? I look around to see all who were rejected (around 2200 SAT).

To ADAD:

Sorry i forgot to put up the meaning of "parrel" in my post. I didn't have enough time. I meant that to follow your on EC and stuff but at the sametime check people stats to know if you are doing the right amount of EC and if your grades are going ok.

Thanks
Shadman

excel, firstly remember (as you can see from the Decisions threads today), stats are not everything. There is far more to an application (as you'll see if you read Ben's admissions blog entry) than just stats. That said, you've been encouraged to raise your SATs if you want your chances improved, and given recent data, this is a good suggestion. I would point you at the MIT Common Data Sets for the past couple years for data.

"Percent of first-time, first-year (freshman) students with scores in each range:"
For 2004 entry:
SAT I Verbal: 700-800: 64%, 600-699: 31%, 500-599: 4%, 400-499: 1%.
SAT I Math: 700-800: 88%, 600-699: 11%.

For 2003 entry:
SAT I Verbal: 700-800: 63%, 600-699: 32%, 500-599: 4%, 400-499: 1%.
SAT I Math: 700-800: 89%, 600-699: 11%.

As you can see, very few people were admitted with SAT scores in your range, so working on improving those scores would be a good idea.

do you guys recomend a high school freshmen with a real passion in attending MIT to make a MyMIT account?

anyone can make that account...you should go for it...it will give you info.

thanks excel

how much would EA help your chances?
