Any hopes for a 1600?

Is going from a 1600 to a 1800 on the SAT possible within 3 weeks? I am constantly scoring 1600s on my practice exams. I make very dumb mistakes on the math part causing me to lose at least 50 points, and the writing part I know all the material but I feel stressed for time. Are there any strategies or advice that can help me increase my score in 3 weeks for the May SAT?

If you want a few free chapters of my SAT Math strategy book send me a pm. If you’re unfamiliar with some of these strategies, then you might get a quick boost in your math score.

200 points in just 3 weeks is a lot but not impossible. I generally recommend only practicing for the SAT for a short amount of time each day, but you’ll need to study a bit more since there’s such a short time frame. Just try to study smarter, not harder. Make sure you’re practicing SAT specific strategies as you do problems, focus on the difficulty level of problems that’s going to raise your score. For example, if your Math score is currently a 600, focus mostly on Level 4 problems (do SOME problems of other levels, but Level 4 should be your main focus).

Here are a couple of suggestions for avoiding careless errors:

(1) make sure you know all the standard, and some advanced SAT Math Strategies.
(2) practice solving questions in multiple ways - by understanding different methods for solving the same problems, you’re more likely to be suspicious when a careless error is being made.
(3) while practicing math problems try to understand more deeply why the method you are using works.
(4) during the test leave 5 minutes at the end to go back and catch careless mistakes - if you are applying the right strategies, there should be plenty of time for you to do this. If you are finding that you don’t have enough time, then you are not solving problems very efficiently and you need to learn more strategies.
(5) Make sure you are “checking” over your answers correctly - don’t simply look over your solution. Resolve the problem without looking at your original answer, then compare them at the end. Ideally you should try a different method the second time.

Best of luck!

What are level problems? Are they leveled in the BB?
