A few non-religious schools that offer SOME substance-free housing:
Bucknell University (PA)
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Iowa State University
James Madison University (VA)
Rutgers University (NJ)
University of New Hampshire
University of North Carolina - Asheville
Willamette University (OR)
Bucknell does have heavy fraternity and sorority participation, which correlates to higher alcohol use.
In general, the more isolated / remote tge campusbis, the stronger the party scene since tge students basically have to amuse themselves.
Urban or suburban with easy access to city life will have more of a mix of party and non-party amusements.
I’d also stick with <30% participation in greek life, plus or minus.
“Bucknell does have heavy fraternity and sorority participation, which correlates to higher alcohol use.”
Don’t join a frat/sorority and don’t go to frat/sorority houses - and frat/sorority drinking should be a non-issue at Bucknell.
Bucknell has some substance-free housing available where students are NOT allowed to possess alcohol.
The OP specifically stated that they don’t want a religious school, so if you think one can find a secular college campus in the USA with no alcohol and partying, I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge dirt cheap.
You’re going to find alcohol/partying at ALL secular (and a number of religious ones too) schools, but those with substance-free housing available are an excellent option for students looking to avoid the “party animal” side of college life.
Almost all universities have a substance-free/wellness dorm. Not universal, but often they also tend to be nicer than the average freshman dorm, because they’re less likely to be sullied by vomit or vandalized by drunks.
