I want to major in either finance or politics, thanks for helping
Are you hoping for coach support?
ANY particular part of the country?
Size of school? Urban? Rural? Greek life or sports important?
Finance is not offered at many LACS although almost all have placements into the financial industry. If you are looking for a business major, there are many options. Pretty much every school has government or political science. Schools in DC make it easier to get government internships. Schools like Northeastern and Drexel has great coop programs if you want to mix practical experience into your education.
Amherst, Bowdoin, Hamilton, Trinity (CT), Kenyon and Claremont McKenna would be examples of colleges that would be strong for public policy and government studies.
On more thing, I like urban but could go for rural. Also here is my current list of schools I am looking into
Washington and Lee
Georgetown
Babson College
Bowdoin
North Carolina
Cornell
@apple23 Thanks for the recommendation! My uncle is actually a professor at Kenyon. I agree with you, they have an excellent tennis program. I would certainly play for their team if I went there.
For a view through economics programs, which may offer courses in topics such as corporate finance, financial economics and international finance, this analysis based on faculty scholarship in the field can be useful:
Look at UChicago. It is top tier for econ, is recruited by Wall Street, and college students can take finance courses in the graduate school of business which is top 3 in the nation.
Chicago is excellent at political science as well, and now David Axelrod’s Institute of Politics is right on campus providing hundreds of unique internship opportunities for those who are interested in that field.
@ThankYouforHelp Wow! Chicago is for sure an excellent school but I wasn’t aware of their finance and political programs. I will also mention that I could start for any D3 school for tennis. But at schools like Georgetown
, is more likely have to walk on.
Fordham/Gabelli gives you access to the NYC financial world for internships. Davidson is a liberal arts college with a strong placement record in the financial world. It is a liberal arts college near Charlotte, the second-largest banking center in the country now. Davidson has very loyal alumni/ae, and a powerful "Old-Boy Network.
Note, however, that Williams maintains a graduate program in development economics, which might inflate their standing (link, #10) in comparison to LACs without graduate departments, @Firewoksworld.
