Hi! So I’ve been looking online trying to find colleges that would fit me. I have taken just about every online matcher about it but the problem is that “targets” and “safeties” never seem to appear. Does anyone know of any schools that would fit me as a prospective student?
I really want a school in or close to a city.
That isn’t really that big.
I am interesting in science but want a school where I can explore a lot like theatre.
I am mainly want to look at schools in the North East but could go south.
I’d prefer a school where the environment is not cutthroat.
I know websites online can help but from people already in schools or who have visited campus’ - i feel like you’d all know better.
My GPA currently weighted is a 4.0/4.0. I have looked already at Brown, UPenn, Boston College and Tufts but don’t know of any schools that aren’t reaches.
So look at urban LACs that might be less selective than those on your current list. How are your test scores? And what’s your financial situation? Can you pay in full? If you are female, would you consider an all women’s school? V
Use supermatch on this site, but instead of listing your actual GPA and test scores, list a lower GPA and lower scores so that you can find safeties and matches.
Do you have any hooks (legacy, URM, etc.)
With a 29 ACT, all of those colleges are reaches for you. Take a look at:
College of Charleston
Fordham
Northeastern
American University
You need for financial aid will also determine which colleges should be on your list.
Yes, it sounds like you’re looking for small or Liberal Arts /universities colleges. Consider…
Canisius College (Buffalo)
Marist College (New York)
Juniata College (small town but not terribly far from Penn State, which is a mega-campus and community)
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester MA)
Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland)
Ohio Wesleyan University (near Columbus)
U of Tulsa (Tulsa OK)
Davidson College (near Charlotte NC)
Wofford College (Spartanburg SC, about 1 hr-15 minutes drive from Charlotte; 2.5 hours from Atlanta; Amtrak service to both)
I second College of Charleston. It’s a nice mix of old and new. Charleston is a beatiful city with a strong cultural and arts presence. CofC also has a strong arts program including theatre , music etc
One or two of your state’s public universities could serve as safeties or maybe matches. These schools would likely be affordable to you, at least more so than some private colleges/universities.
Some secondary or regional state colleges could be safeties.
If you’re from a state with a small flagship university, it could be a match or a safety. If you’re from a state with a large or prestigious state flagship, the school might be an academic match but may be larger than you’d want your school to be.
Thirding Muhlenberg and College of Charleston, seconding Rhodes, Case Western, and Fordham.
If you can also look to the Midwest (the weather is basically as cold as New England, but with more dry sunny days/clear skies) check out Macalester, Illinois Wesleyan, DePaul, Loyola Chicago, Lake Forest, Saint Louis University, Marquette, plus St Lawrence or Dickinson.
Yeah location is not a very big deal for me. I just want a college with a good premed track, somewhere that allows for internships and research for undergrads, diversity (somewhere with a decent indian population), and a school that would cost around 25-35k total for someone with my stats. @MYOS1634@shannon14 Any new suggestions would be great!
we can’t know how much colleges would cost, but you can, simply by typing “net price calculator” + “name of college” and entering your data. The CollegeBoard’s (and other “long” NPCs that require documentation) are pretty good. Colleges that don’t ask for GPA/scores don’t include merit, those that do ask include possible merit.
