haha. aww i miss imp. i'm a senior now so its all over; now i'm taking AP Statistics.. but FYI, its pretty easy for me, more so than it seems for the "regular" mathers... IMP is great prep for stat! so it wasnt a massive waste of time after all.... :) jk

Hahah, talk about revival of a dead thread! I took stat last year with IMP and I didn't find IMP helpful at all (for stat class)... lol

I don't miss the portfolios or POWs. I'm enjoying my traditional math class this year. I still think IMP, if taken alongside geo/alg2/trig, would be terrific. By itself... I'm not sure if it's enough. Oh well, those were some good times.

I'm another IMP grad- took all four years, and I'm taking Calc AB this year. So far so good. Sometimes it just takes me a minute to translate things from IMP language to real math ("composition of functions, oh yeah, that's the thing with the catfish and the chemical waste" "rules of exponents...how many slices of cake did alice eat?").

However, I'm getting ready to take the PSAT, and trying to decide which SATII math test to take, and both of those are making it clear to me just how lacking some of my basic math skills are. There are a lot of formulas I feel that I never learned, and concepts (especially in geometry) that were spread over multiple units in different years, so that I have no cohesive understanding of them. I think that the idea of teaching math in a way where kids understand why things work and not just how to do them is a good thing, but IMP, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired.
