ugh...math classes?

is it just me or is the math program at our school seriously under-subjected? i've never even heard of...though i can assume what they are from the titles, like linear algebra. but how many subjects of math are offered at your school, and what are the highest?

all we have here are:

-algebra ia/ib (easier/halved versions of algebra i)
-algebra i
-geometry (and informal geometry, easier geometry class)
-personal finance (for those who need math credits but don't actually want to do math...slackers)
-algebra ii
-math analysis/pre-calculus (weighted but not honors, strangely. and they call it math analysis on our transcript which infuriates me because it sounds like i'm not taking pre-calc, and therefore taking an easier class...)
-ap calculus (which is calculus ab...)

pre-algebra
algebra
geometry
algebra 2
math analysis/trig
and just added this year: Calculus AB

:-\ Nothing special. Calculus is offered depending on the no. of students (atleast 15). Otherwise, there is no class. It was almost not offered this year...

calc bc
math independent study: deq and multivars

my school's math
Pre-algebra (C or worse in 8th grade reg. math)
Algebra 1 (B or better in reg. 8th grade math, or pre algebra in 7th (done by testing)
IGA (inbetween algebra 1 and geometry for C in algebra 1)
Geometry
IGA 2 (inbetween geometry and algebra 2 for a C in geometry
Algebra 2
ITA (inbetween algebra 2 and pre-calc)
pre-calc (in semesters)
prob and stats
ap calc ab
ap calc bc (no more than 20 out of about 450 kids in each class take this)

going to a public school, the math is hard, which is why there are so many inbetween classes, half the kids drop pre-calc, even those along the adv. class, my school has no honors math, i'll be in ap calc ab next year but i'm going to study ap calc bc

Transitional Mathematics: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, simple geometry- really pathetic class
Foundations of Mathematics- A step up from Transitional Math.
Algebra I Part I and Algebra I Part II- covers Algebra 1 over 2 years
Algebra I and Algebra I Academic- Academic is harder than regular
Geometry and Geometry Academic- Same as Above
Algebra II and Algebra II Academic-Same as Above
Honors Geometry/Algebra II-Algebra II and Geometry in one year
Precalculus and Honors Precalculus
Honors Calculus
AP AB Calculus
AP BC Calculus
AP Statistics
Any math course you like at Bowdoin College, free of charge.

Not bad for a school with 250 kids per class.

My school is similar. At least our schools both have AP Calculus AB.

I took Calc AB last year. My class had eight students.

My school's math courses:
Transition to Algebra
Algebra I
Geometry
Algebra II
Survey of Math (after this year, it will be considered an elective, not a math)
Advanced Algebra
Trigonometry
Calculus

There used to be Pre-Algebra and Pre-Calculus, but they got rid of them because of scheduling problems and stuff.

Math A
Algebra 1a
Algebra 1b
geometry
Algebra 2
Math analysis
satistics
calc ab

Algebra I
Algebra II/Trig (inc. Honors)
Geometry/Trig (inc. Honors)
AP Stats
Algebra III/Trig
Pre-Calculus (inc. Honors)
Introduction to Calculus
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus BC
Mutlivariable Calculus

Intensive Math
Pre-Algebra
Algebra 1a and 1b
Algebra 1
Liberal Arts- a course which includes algebra and parts of geometry
Geometry
Geometry Honors
Geometry Honors/Gifted
Algebra 2
Algebra 2 Honors
Algebra 2 Honors/Gifted
ATM- advanced topics in math- includes algebra 2 with some parts of trigonometry
Trigonometry Honors and Analytical Geometry Honors
Trigonometry Honors/Gifted and Analytical Geometry Honors/Gifted
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
University (Duel Enrollment) Level Calculus

Along with these levels of math, there is Consumer Math which includes skills for businesses and math skills encountered in daily life ex. percentages, taxes, weighted averages...

My school just goes through Calc AB as well. After junior year I'll have to go to another school or a CC for math. yick.

Gatsby - Calc AB as the highest class is not at all uncommon in quite good schools. Make it through that and you will be fine in terms of admissions. Don't sweat the label for pre-calc - lots of schools call it by different names, and it will be clear to adcoms what it is when they look at your math sequence.

We have:
Alg 1, part 1
Alg 1, part 2
Geometry
Geometric Concepts
Alg 2
Trig w/adv Alg
Trig w/ prob & statistics
Precalculus
AP Statistics
AP Calc (which is AB/BC depending on the kids.... last year it was AB but there were like 30 kids, this year there are five kids and a few will try to accelerate the AB so they can take the BC test too... not me though... although I DO have the hightest grade in the class!)

All the smart kids at our school take AP Stat which just amazes me! I don't understand why you wouldn't take Calc your senior year when you took pre calc your junior year!

ummm our highest math classes are calculus bc, statistics ap, and advanced calculus (after calculus bc). we have about 180 people take calculus bc each year....

Algebra I
Geomtetry
Algebra II (w/ Trig)
Pre-Calculus
AP Calculus (AB)
Probability and Statistics (Honors)

You have about 180 students taking BC Calculus every year at your school?

My AB Calculus class last year had eight students.

yeah at my school 20 out of about 500 in each class take bc calc, and about 30-40 take calc ab, but then again i do go to a public school

WOW, 180 kids! Out of a school of 1470, we have FIVE!

my school pretty much offers the same thing as everyone else, except there is Unified Calculus III and Differential Equations for people who complete AP Calculus in junior year. not alot of people, but enough for the 2 classes.

Pre-Algebra
Algebra
Geoemetry
Adv. Algebra
Function, Statics, Trigonometry
Pre-Calc (You get to take these 2 courses in same year, since we're in block system. Yeah, it's such a time-filler of your junior schedule)
AP Calculus AB (it sucks, no BC)

Yeah, our school is f'd up since that's the only AP course for math. No statistics either.
