With most indians asking for aid in EA/ED getting Deferred or Rejected. Is there anyone on CC who got accepted and was given financial aid?

I know of one guy who applied ED to Cornell and requested FA. He got rejected though.

I applied ED Cornell & got Deferred.
Cornell hasnt accepted a single Indian who has asked for aid.

Anyone on CC who got accepted ED Cornell & didnt ask for aid?

p.s Karan what were ur frnd’s stats who got rejected?

Wow, deferred. Your app must have been pretty good.
And his stats were 2100 SAT 760,740-Math and Physics Subject tests. His ECs were very good but all computer science related. He got in Purdue and GaTech though.
What are your stats like?

@Karan- Is that friend of urs on CC-if so what is his screen name?
My stats are very misleading though. SAT 1- ~2100 SAT 2- Maths LevelII-800, Phy-800, Rank- Top 5% in a class of more than 1000, EC’s r fine.

His handle is ‘thepositive’. Also my stats are somewhat similar. ECs are weak. Essays are fine, I guess.

Ure stats are similar to whom- mine or thepostive’s?
How in the world did thepositve get rejected? I mean he had such wonderful EC’s.

R u applying for aid cuz i guess that is the single most important factor for internationals especially Indians.

I am applying for aid.
My stats-
SAT-2210 (have retaken it this dec, hoping for a 2300+)
SAT Subject Tests-Physics 800, Math 2C 800, Literature 720
School Marks- 9th-87% 10th-9.6 11th-82% 12th-83%
Rank: School doesn’t rank
ECs
Perform magic- Have been doing it for the past 4 years. Performed in school, summer camp and street.
Community Service-Don’t know the exact hours but 500+
NTSE Scholar- Cleared all 3 levels
Essays- Good, but not very good.

How is the rest of your profile?

My stats r no where near urs-Your SAT1 is way better.
Y do u say ur EC’s r weak- they r unique, especially the magic one.
And community service of more than 500+ is really awesome. Plus ure a NTSE scholar so that is the icing on the cake. U have gr8 chances.

Thanks man. But FA kills. Also lets see how the essays work out. Where are you on your apps?

Hmmm, just a question, i’ve got marks in my 70s in 11th and 12th, but i’m still in the top 5% (if not top1%) of my batch of approx 180-200. Do the 70s look bad or will the adcoms take in the whole picture?

No it wont do any harm unless ur sat2 scores r less!
What’s ure sat2 score?

Hey dreamlord

If your counselor is able to put your scores in perspective it should not be a problem at all. It is his/her job to compare you with the rest of your batch and present you as a strong candidate which you say you are - top 5%.

A friend got to Stanford without aid. (REA)

A friend got to Stanford. With aid.

We have different friends xD

Yeah, different I bet :)

Stanford with aid is amazing considering they give aid to only a handful of internationals.
What are his stats? Which state is he from?

20 internationals/ year receive aid, if I remember correctly.

Hey guys, A friend of mine made ED Cornell with aid last year. I got ED Penn but without aid. Turns out they are deffering people who haven’t asked for aid as well. Of pretty good merit at that.
