Any Indians Out There?

Dude. How do you get a 680 in CR??? CR is my lowest, I always do terribly on that. Do you have any tips/advice to help a fellow brown child who hopes to get into a decent college and earn her parents bragging rights?

thanks imp, lets hope it does.

Speaking of pressure, let’s revise what just ensued about 5 minutes ago.

watching the Redskins game, my mom commences a discussion about how I wanted to create an SAT club. On one of my posts, I stated that I wanted to create one in sophomore year, so the only way she could of know is if she discreetly went onto my laptop. After that, I got mad at her for creeping on my laptop (this has occurred before) and she said it’s her right and she could call the police to make me show it all (lololol brown parents). My dad was there, and as the curious one he is, he asked about it. I normally don’t disclose stuff like this to my parents since I like to keep my two worlds separate (Seinfeld reference). They made me explain the entire thing and I was so ****ed now that my two worlds were colliding. My mom told me she looked at the other threads I posted and saw that many got 2300+. She now thinks it is simple to get a 2300 thanks to CC lol. The practice one I took was hosted by the PR and I got a 1520 on it. She says that I need to get a 2300+ on it (PR uses same test) to prove my “worthiness”, and I need to get it within a month. I told her that the difficulty and feasibility of that goal is futile, I would have to be up night and day to get that goal. My dad intervenes and says that I’m useless and will not get anywhere in life. This is my life.

MORAL: Don’t leave CC on and walk away. (Going to leave CC on right now so she reads this)

I’m wincing and commiserating so hard with you right now man even though my parents aren’t Indian.

Omg I’m so sorry dude. gives hug for comfort The people on CC are an unrealistic representation of all college applicants.
Are you a junior? Because I’d say you have until senior year to get to 2300.

Freshman haha I would be crying if I got a 1520 as a junior

@apandia, are you trying to ace the SATs and put it aside in freshman year?

Yeah @burnout just got my blue book and I’m doing a practice test each week from now on, I’ll focus more on ECs once I’m old enough to get a car and do it all myself

Wth, they expect you to get a 2300 as a FRESHMAN?!? They should know that that is quite unrealistic. Not many people can do that. There’s a YouTube channel called Radical Prep and that has some good videos on stuff you’re having trouble with. I guess getting the SAT done now would be smart. Gives you time to do APUSH hw junior year!

@Imp
Superscoring is taking the highest score you’ve received in each section. So for example (not my scores, lol):
First SAT: M:600 CR: 600 W:700 (total: 1900)
Second SAT: M: 700 CR: 700 W: 650 (total: 2050)
Okay, so here, your second SAT was higher, with a score of 2050. However, on the first SAT, your W score was higher than on your second SAT. A lot of schools, (not all, mind you, but most of the Ivies. College board has a list http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat-score-use-practices-list.pdf</a>) will look at your highest score per section. So even though your highest single sitting total was 2050, your highest superscored total is 2100.
I’m not sure if I explained that well :D

Lol I never took the SAT as a freshman, but as an 8th grader I got like a 1770. Expecting a freshman to get past a 2000 is kinda ridiculous imo  Chill your butts, freshmen.

Oh okay, I get it.
This is kinda late but how was everyone’s Diwali?

Lol nice, I’ll take a practice and hopefully get a 1700+ this weekend. Diwali was a while ago but it was fine haha

Whoop, whoop! You can do it!
Do your parents compare you to other kids a lot? Because mine do.

Nah lol, thanks haha, my parents don’t really know anyone from my school since I’ve only been there 1 semester. Also, there aren’t many Indians in my area so I can’t be compared to many, but I’m certain once my parents meet the other Indian parents it’ll gradually start haha. Sorry for being a creep, but which year are you in and are you m/f?

Lucky. I’m friends with quite a few Indians and so I’m always being compared to them. It sucks, tbh.
Haha I’m a junior and I’m a girl. You’re a freshman boy, right?

@apandia, not to be a killjoy, but if you’re hoping for a 1700+ on a practice SAT this weekend, how can you realistically hope to hit a 2300+ by the end of freshman year?

I’m saying this out of experience. Two years ago when I was a freshman, I wasted all of my studying time behind SAT math, SAT vocab, SAT grammar, etc. I really should’ve spent that time learning AP Physics or calc or something I was passionate in. In the end, I got a 2200+ (not good enough for parents) and told them I was not going to touch the SATs for another 2 years because I was fed up. In the meantime, I’ve progressed in other academic pursuits.

I had a CC mentor who really was a savior for me. He was an SAT essay grader, and had a lot of experience with high schoolers and the SATs. He said that acing the SAT should never be your primary goal. If you develop yourself intellectually and academically, acing the SATs will come as the natural result.

Look at us Indians. Talking about the SATs. Our parents would be so proud. ^.^

Hello Indian Kiddos,
My daughter is a sophomore and we don’t put any pressure on her regarding education.

Your parents should be so proud of you guys.Desi parents can be a little crazy about education.guess it’s for the best of the kids.
Keep it up guys, but remember to enjoy life too!

Thanks, Desimomtx!

2BurnOut, my parents expect it, I definitely do not, I’m guessing with the practice tests I take each week from now on will aid me greatly and get me to at least a 1900. I’m taking the practice test again this weekend and expect a 1700+, the reason why I’m taking an other is because I was out of it on my first. The first one was a free full length practice test hosted by the PR. This was during the middle of my 8th grade summer, and I didn’t prepare for a second. I was engrossed in video games and soccer haha. I just want to get a more accurate measurement right now because school has surely enhanced my ability. After that, I’ll get myself a copy of Direct Hits and E. Meltzer’s SAT Grammar and maybe the Critical Reader. I intend to study with those during break and boost my SAT score because I know I can score high. I need to score high because it’s what they expect and I can’t convince them either way.

@AnImpAffliction, Yes I am haha, and perhaps they would.

@Desimomtx, thanks haha, I’m sure it is for the best. I will definitely have fun as well. :
