Any Info Appreciated

My son has applied as a sophomore transfer to Villanova. Can anyone give me pros/cons on the school? We are in CA and not as familiar with it as the schools out here. As I have been checking around the board, I have seen a lot of negative comments about Villanova. I always thought it had a good reputation. Comments?

What bad information have you read? Villanova has a very good east coast reputation - known in all the major cities. Some view it as a back up to the other big Catholic U's - Georgetown, BC, ND - but that isn't necessarily negative.

Actually, we were just visiting the Bay Area and were surprised at how many people had heard of Villanova.

On some of the other CC forums there are comments such as "don't waste your money" "not well thought of" etc. I know that Villanova is a very competitive school to get into and obviously our view of it is very positive. I just wondered if people who knew the school well had any comments. Thanks for yours!

I PMed you, orangeco,ca.

Galway - if you have insight, PM me too! My S was W/L at all of his match schools. Villanova is a safety and he needs to choose between Vnova and another school. Thanks!

Will do! Villanova was a safety for my dd as well, but she chose it as is very happy there. Good luck!

Thank you Galway Mom - good info.

is there any way i can read your pm also? im trying to decide between villanova and boston college and having an impossible time. i would really appreciate it!

I too am deciding between those two schools, as well as UVA.

irishblues~ great choices, but what do you want? they're pretty different, and of different caliber, not that that has to matter. UVA and BC are tier I, tho very different. Villanova is TierII, but in the spirit of BC. BC, it is well known, is trying to become the " premiere Catholic college in America". they pride themselves on retaining solid jesuit traditions, and fight to remain non-secular. UVA is by far, the strongst of your choices and you are indeed fortunate to gotten into it. very high TierI(public ivy) in a beautiful place and a beautiful campus.BC and Villa are small-to-moderate size. UVA a small -feeling large. getting into UVA OOS, which you obviously did is like getting into an ivy, or harder!!! best to you!

I actually haven't gotten in since I am currently a high school junior. I have also not visited the campuses of those colleges yet (something I plan on doing in the upcoming spring/summer).

More than anything I am looking for a school that offers a good economics/business/finance/math program. I am also looking for a school with a great reputation. As far as campuses go, I want a campus that is somewhat secluded but is near a relatively big city that offers good jobs in the field I am pursuing. The Catholic aspect of BC and Villanova is a plus for me but not a major issue.

If you are deciding between BC and Villanova for business, Villanova currenlty has the stronger undergraduate business program, the ratings are on the businessweek website. UVA is higher than both though.

uva is #2, and BC is not far behind nova, it's 14 compared to nova's 12 (business wise)
