My daughter applied for graduate study at UTD in the Art and Technology program. Her application has been complete since early February and she hasn't heard anything one way or the other. Her status is still showing under review. She had sent a letter reiterating her interest in the program to the contact sometime in late March, I think. She assumed she didn't get in when she didn't hear anything in April and they just hadn't updated her status or sent her a rejection letter. I told her I found that unlikely (not that she didn't get in, but that the university wouldn't let her know someway), and suggested she contact the program contact. She actually listened to mom (for once, I might faint) and received an email back stating that if she applied for fall 2012 (which she did) they had not actually begun reviewing applications yet, but would be doing so within the next 30 days. That was the end of April, meaning the end of May would be the 30 days, but the email isn't clear on whether they were starting review the end of May or would be done by the end of May. It seems to me that they're not allowing much time for a graduate student to get up there, find housing, etc... before school starts. Her lease expires in June, but she can do a month to month as long as she gives them 30 days notice. Her job situation is a little more tricky. She teaches art, part-time for two programs during the school year and is basically working full-time for one this summer and part-time still for the other this summer, but at some point, both are going to want to know her intent for staying in the fall. She has so far not been asked what her plans are. One place, where's she got the full-time hours this summer, hasn't been as described, neither the hours, job duties, pay being received on time, etc.., so she wouldn't feel that bad giving them very little notice, but the other job, she loves and they love her, so she wants to do right by them, but she honestly doesn't know yet her plans. Is this time frame common for graduate studies at UTD? Or maybe just this major? I ran across a study (when we were researching the school) that indicated improving the graduate admissions process was a goal, though it was several years old and didn't indicate what area of the process needed improvement. Any suggestions as to when would be appropriate to inquire again? Anyone know if the review process is relatively quick or does it drag out? Thanks
