Any Kenties (Kent School) here?

Not sure who your talking about, I would say the most famous alum is Seth MacFarlane though. Creator of family guy and american dad :D

No. This individual was head counsel for Department of Defense, Deputy Sec of Defense and Sec of the Army in the sixties and then Carter’s first Sec of State in 1977…Most famous Kent alum.

…Carters Secretary of state? Cyrus something? I know a lot about old jimmy. I live on a street named after Jimmy Carter in Georgia.

Cyrus Vance! And what Hotchkiss graduate preceded him as Dep Sec of Defense in the early sixties??? Ahhh games…

Served under Kennedy I’m guessing or Eisenhower

Yes, served under Kennedy. It was Roswell Gilpatric, Hotchkiss grad. Do you have any for me? I guess I am off topic at this point…

Ok mpicz, here is another one for you, totally off topic now. What Exeter grad is intent on remaking Medicare and Social Security so that they are sustainable programs? Hint: he is a pretty good runner and drinks tons of coffee and tea?

I have no clue lol, who?

Peter Orszag, director of OMB, Exeter around 1988 or so.

Hmm alright. Which famous inventor sent his kid to SPS in the late 1800’s

I give up.

Inventor of the durable light bulb.

I guess you mean Thomas Alva Edison. On another subject, my impression is that St Pauls and Hotchkiss have the greatest number of “notable” alumni. Not that that means anything for current students, but it is striking.

Yea I would say so alsp…and also throw Exeter and Andover in there. Seems like they made a separate page for all their alumni…I would question how many of them you can actually call “notable”. But that’s another discussion.

Hotchkiss was almost a resort for the rich if you consult literary works that mention it… I just read that in an NY times article… It regarded Hotchkiss as the home for ultra wealthy finance and business prodigies.

That was a while ago and I think that is why Hotchkiss had alot of famous alumni enroll even when it was barely 10 years old.

That, and it was set up to be a feeder school for a little college in New Haven…

Back to Kent. Unlike other schools, students at Kent all have same tablet portable computer. In fact, I understand that they are all required to have this device. The price that is quoted on the school website is about $2000. Does anyone know about this program? I would think that a $2000 tablet is quite a machine…

We have really narrowed it down to Kent and a couple of others and Kent is our favorite among those. Can anyone who knows please please tell me about the question of religion at Kent? I know kids are required to go to chapel and so on and that is fine. Are the issues of worship and belief pushed hard at Kent??? Would a child from a nonbelieving background be comfortable there???

While students are required to attend chapel, religion is not pushed hard at Kent (our Kent student comes from a family that does not practice religion). In fact, my daughter said that she has a friend who doesn’t attend chapel or temple because his parent’s wrote for a chapel waiver since their child is an atheist. If I remember correctly from what my daughter has told me, one of the chapel service’s is more of an assembly of current affairs whilst Sunday’s chapel is more religious in nature.

Thank you tzeme! Your thoughtful comments are pushing us more and more in the direction of choosing Kent! The town itself is just stunning, as the Litchfield hills are. Do you have any other insights?
