I owe my school a balance and in order to continue my education I must pay the balance or I can't attend school. I've already lost a year I don't want to lose another one.

I've been searching so hard and so much for a private student loan (bank, credit union, lender, etc.), but I can't find any so far.

I've been working at a new (first) job for a month and will make a bit over $11,000 a year, my uncle who makes $34,000 a year is willing to co-sign for me, but has filed for bankruptcy a few years back. I'm applying for a loan of $19,000. I can't transfer because they are holding my transcript. I tried, but obtained no scholarships and my financial aid has been exhausted. I don't mind transferring to a cheaper school, but in order to that I need to pay this balance so I can get my transcript

Are there any private student loans that I have a good chance to get approved for despite my uncle's credit history. I don't want to lose two years of college that not an option taking another year off can't be a resort.

Honestly I don't care about interest as much. I just want to take care of this problem.

Go to your own bank or credit union, and sit down with a loan officer to talk about this. You need to find out if it is at all possible for you to get an unsecured loan for this amount of money, the interest rates that it is likely you would be charged, and the likely terms of repayment. For example, if you could get this kind of loan, how much would you need to pay each month? You won’t be able to defer it while you are in school, so it needs to be something you can pay each month in addition to all of your college and living expenses.

Now I will be straight with you: The chance of you getting the kind of loan you want right now are just about zip. You need to live as cheaply as possible, and pay off your first college in installments. Call them and arrange to do that. You won’t be able to go back to school for a couple more years, but that really truly is OK. When you are able to do so, you will be debt free, and you will be dead certain of your career goals. For any student, those two factors make a huge difference.

What? By creating a new and larger problem? And, an uncle who earns a lowish income and has bad credit isn’t going to be a qualified co-signers. (do people with bad financial sense all hang out together?)

$19k is way too much to borrow. What year in college are you?

Some of us are not so lucky to have parents/family/trust funds who can help pay for our schooling. And in these times, many times it makes sense to go to private schools instead of public schools (in CA at least where I know people who have been in community college for five years because they cannot get their classes or get into a state school-because of the overpopulation, not because they have bad grades). As long as you are smart about money and not lazy to get a good job,…and are in a field that will get you somewhere, then loans are not bad. You just need to have a plan. Doctors take out about 150,000 dollars in loans, and that is just for medical school…yet most of them make big bucks that can pay them off in a timely manner. I’ve gone to private school the majority of my undergrad career, and will now be starting a grad program at a private school as well. My plan is to become a psychologist, and psychologists and therapists are highly needed. I would rather have great schooling and finish school in a timely manner.

I very much hope you can find the money to continue your education. Most people who stop going to school never return. Great luck!! This is a very bad economy, and just because you have bad credit does not mean you have bad financial sense. Sometimes life works out that way for some people. I had to use a credit card to pay off my school my first yr-similar to your situation, so that I could continue schooling.

I am proud of you for your continuous effort!!! It will all work out in the end!!! :)
