Unfortunately, we don't qualify for FA since the EFC is too high but still need money, and therefore, we need merit money to consider Emory as a realistic college choice.

He is a rejected Emory Scholar (didn't even make semifinalist).

Other awards from their website:
Barkley Debate Scholars- not in debate
Deans Music Scholarships - not excellent in music (only 2 yrs piano), and doesn't want to major in music
Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships- doesn't live in GA, let alone attend public school in Atlanta

Do they offer deans/presidents/trustee merit awards, or is the rest of Emory's money in FA?

If FA's all that's left...then an acceptance to Emory could not be considered.

Thanks!

It is my impression that all the merit aid goes to those who made semifinalist for Emory Scholars. Those who didn't make finalist got merit awards in amounts between ~$13,000 (e.g., Liberal Arts Scholarship) and 2/3 tuition (John Emory Scholar). Check the older thread called Emory Scholars Notification and you'll see some posting of results. That seems to be how merit money gets allotted.

If you son chooses to attend, there are additional merit scholarship available during the 1st and 2nd years. These are called the Dean's achievement awards and are determined by performance in the college and not on high school excellence. I think the awards are for $10,000.

Amadani is correct. My daughter was lucky enough to receive one, and it also paid for her tuition for a summer term abroad. There are some other upperclassmen scholarships available such as Sonny Carter, too.
