Hi,
My DD got admitted to Emory university through ED. We are high income and not eligible for need based aid. What are the chances to get merit aid at least some?
Her stats are SAT:1500 and GPA:3.86
Thanks in advance.
Not likely with those stats but you never know.
Did she not apply for the merit scholarships that require a special application in the Fall (Emory Scholars etc)? We found out about them too late…
When she did her ED application did she not check the box to consider for scholarships. That is where emory does there named scholarships but it is also through there that they tend to give out the merit ones. If she did do it and there is no update that probably not going to see any surprise merit and if she didn’t check the box the same holds re merit - at least following the normal procedures for the school.
She did check the checkbox. She was not accepted into scholars program. Heard scholars program is highly competitive.
Yes. It is highly competitive but some applicants that do not get finalists do receive an update at that time in their portal with their merit monies. When my son got in ED2 (two years ago) he got his financial aid update in the financial aid portal not long after his acceptance. That is the place students would have found any merit. We already knew that for him he was going to be a no because before he was accepted we got a call from financial aid to understand a benefit my husband had. My husband is U Miami faculty and we get tuition remission up to the cost of UM. The outcome of that is they said oh you are good then. He was offered the lowest level loan. We are actually interested in seeing if this year even a small loan becomes a grant with Emory’s new policy.
Has she looked in her financial aid portal which I think is connected through OPUS. Though since our next child down is a senior and we are currently setting up everything for her with CWRU and going through all of her stuff all portals are a blue right now.
Good luck but in general allot of the merit monies from Emory are offered to those when scholar’s decision came around (even to some who got a no from being a finalist).
Thanks
