<p>I'm trying to get myself into a holiday mood and stop thinking about my already submitted application to Harvard. What interesting books are you guys reading? Or what movies are you watching? I would prefer something about Harvard students or university in general.

<p>Well, there was this kind of related book called Hacking Harvard that I read. It involves three teenage students, one an early Harvard student, getting a guy into Harvard by faking his grades, test scores, and even kind of his interview. <p>You probably shouldn’t spend too much time worrying about life at Harvard until after you get in.</p>

<p>Ekaterina, Dwight actually has been a great resource to us for a while. There’s no need to be angry at him because you have not snapped out of the delusional reality you have constructed for yourself. This is the internet. Tone is wildly subjective and is dependent upon reader interpretation. I agree that the comments of several harvard attendees (with the extreme exception of the always helpful xrcalico) may seem catty, but they’re all we’ve got. </p>

<p>Dwight’s advice is good. It hurts if you get too invested in the culture of a school and then don’t get in.
Reading about Harvard is not a good way to take your mind off of your Harvard app!
(But if you must: Prozac Nation, though depressing, is written by a Harvard alum, and includes some of her time there. It’s sad, but pretty interesting.)</p>
<p>I agree with Dwight and Elanorci, but with the added caveat that the school’s culture as portrayed in most movies and books is wildly inaccurate! Social Network, Legally Blonde, which you mention, Love Story (oh, gag), etc.? No, no, and maybe once upon a time but very no (and certainly not at the time it was made, even). So I can’t in good conscience give you recommendations for this project: first, as they said, it’s not a good idea, and second, even if it was a good idea, I can’t think of anything remotely accurate, so I wouldn’t have any recommendations.</p>
<p>@Interficio This is probably not what you meant, but do we really seem catty and only useful because there’s nothing better available? I feel like I, at least, try very hard to represent us well, and if I haven’t been (since one’s own tone is definitely sometimes hard to judge on the internet), I’ll be kind of upset, but work at doing much better in the future. Ack–I hope not!</p>

<p>On a side note (since there’s nowhere else to place this) am I the only person who, when others heard of my acceptance, was eagerly assaulted by at least four people who won’t stop begging to watch the social network with me, as if it’ll provide some insightful experience?! Haha it always makes me chuckle </p>

<p>Okay, I know everyone gets a little anxious during application season so I’m sorry that my comments are usually insufficiently cheery and optimistic. I thought my comment was indeed “related” because, as many have said, spending time reading about a school to which you will likely be rejected is just going to make that day harder. It isn’t a reflection on you, I think everyone applying to top schools with 6% acceptance rates in an already highly self-selected applicant pool shouldn’t get their hopes up…I know I didn’t. </p>
<p>I’ve seen so many posters here ask, as prospective students in January, what the best Harvard house is and what fall classes a freshman should take and where you can get hot breakfast. Unless these are influencing your decision to apply in the first place, there is plenty of time to ask these questions in April once you claim your victory over 30,000 other competitors. </p>
<p>Also, no I don’t have a paper due, but if someone could turn this into some CC meme, that would be fantastic. Every time I break into a rant about Harvard summer school or the term “crapshoot” or something, someone can come in and say “Dwight, do you have a paper to write?” Brilliant idea. Anyone?</p>
