Just wondering if there are any Nevadans on CC...especially fellow Las Vegans, as we seem to be in short supply here. Seems this particular city is not hailed for its academics :) Anyone applying to somewhere on the east coast? Most of my classmates are either going to UNLV, UNR, CCSN, or aren't attending college whatsoever...the high-achievers are going to BYU, I think...I feel lonely, wanting to branch out further..heh.

Not from NV, but Idaho which is also underrepresented here. I feel your isolation lol. :-)

I recall a girl from Nevada (don't remember which part; I think Reno?) who used to post on these boards. Dunno if she still does though. So you're not alone.

Haha, we should turn this into the 'underrepresented states' thread. I'm game.

I completely agree. There's way too many people from the big east and west coast cities. We need to represent the western states which people don't know exist! Oh, and to answer your first question, I'm applying to east coast schools. I really want to go to NYU-Tisch. Most people at my school go to colleges in Oregon, Washington, CO, or CA. No one wants to leave the westcoast bubble!

I lived for three months in Las Vegas (I live on West Sahara); my aunt lives at that house now though. Yeah, I was born there (that's how I got citizenship), but I grew up in Taiwan all of my life...so yeah :P I wished I stayed though...the PSAT index is 20 points lower in Nevada than "overseas". Haha.

Yeah. I never really thought of it that way - "westcoast bubble." Hah. I tell my friends I want to go to school in New York (Columbia) and they freak out. Realistically, I'm probably looking at BU, but its still pretty far away...

Do you like living in Vegas sailor? I just went on vacation there this summer and it seems like it would be fun to live there.

litltebeach, I know exactly what you mean! If there is the rare person who considers a school outside of a 3 state radius, everyone thinks "isn't the west coast good enough for you?"

there's quite a few ohioans, but I'm in full support of URS (underrepresented states haha :p)

random question for nevadans.

ok, i have a white friend who was talking about nevada and she pronounced in nuh-VAAAHHH-duh, AAAHHH being like the "a" in "a"ctually. i told her it was more correct to say neh-VAW-dah, like the "a" in awkward.

she said that's not how anyone in nuh-VAAAAHH-duh say it but i told her (being hispanic and fluent in spanish) that nevada was a spanish word and that MY english way of pronouncing it is a lot closer that the american butchered way of saying it.

so how exactly do nevadans say their states name? the extremely wrong way (nuh-VAAAHHH-duh) or the semi right way (neh-VAW-dah)

lol coqui, everyone here says it the extremely wrong way - "nuh VAHHHHHHHH duh" as you put it :)

Princess....I'm not too fond of this place. Perhaps I'm just bored because I've lived here for nearly 14 years (born in CA, like 99.9% of the population here) but I find that there is really nothing to do besides partying on the strip, which gets TIRED really fast. The scenery is ugly (nothing but imported palm trees and rocks...no natural vegetation) and the weather is absurdly hot. I guess part of the reason I'm so eager to move out east is the fact that I'm soo ready for a change.

Makes a fun vacation, though. :)

well that's not right. haha. well i guess it happens with a lot of spanish named states....florida, california, nevada...

That's Kansas. Except without imported palm trees and rocks.
