my DS is looking at Hotel school and tryiong to get a feel of life on campus (given that he will be living on campus)

I don't go to UNLV, but I have many friends who do. I have lived in Vegas since the early 90's and UNLV has grown sooo much in the last 15 years.

UNLV is considered a commuter school because many instate students attend there for next to nothing in costs due to a big state scholarship aka the Millenium Scholarship, but there are still many who live on campus. My friends tell me the campus is very laid back, sometimes almost too laid back.

I went on a campus tour not too long ago. The dorms were typical, nothing overly extravagant, yet not the worst I've seen from visiting other colleges. To be honest, I think UNLV looks better overall than many of the other schools I have visited. As a side note, there is a lot of construction on campus at the moment as they are building a new Student Union and Recreation Center. Both buildings look like their going to be really cool when their done.

Overall, many of my friends are really pleased with UNLV. It is my second choice school, but it will probably end up being my final choice because the chances that I get into my first choice are one in a million. I hope this insight helps.

Thanks....we found the facilites to be quite nice and students generally freindly. Saw the Running rebs beat the Lobo's of UNM in basketball..they seem to PACK the MACK.....and were spirited.

hotel school any good? i haven't seen unlv having been on any list for the hotel school being great or anything, but a lot of people apply to unlv anyway.. possibly because of the opportunities of interning or scoring a job at the many amazing hotels nearby?

I have heard its highly respected and its a mile from the Vegas Strip...so tons of contacts and opportunities.

The hotel program is one of the biggest programs on campus. I don't know anybody in the program, but I heard it was just as good as Cornell.... don't know where that ranking came from, but that's what I heard.

Cornells Hotel School is better. even though that post is 1 year old.

Jim......my son ended up at Cornell. Its not even CLOSE to program at UNLV...he loves it up there.

yeah I want to go to Cornell also, since 6th grade and plan to pursue the same major which is Hotel Management..

good luck on getting in to Cornell
