My freshman daughter has STILL not been assigned to a dorm or have a room. I called U/M on Thursday and was told her application was in with no problems holding it up, and that some students still have no dorm or room assignment yet. We are both upset, as most people and friends have known for weeks or months. This is causing us both a lot of anxiety. Has anyone else NOT been assigned a dorm or room yet or heard of anyone NOT finding out this late into the summer? Most people are finding out roommates not rooms at this point!!

Yea I haven’t gotten my contract either :/

Thank you so much for responding to my question! I feel like/felt like something must have gone wrong! She was admitted in December, not asked to send final grades or anything, attended orientation last month, has a schedule, but NO PLACE TO LIVE! Like I said, we are both so upset. It seems so unfair, like the last thing a new freshman needs to worry about at this point! Are you a new incoming freshman too?

On the Facebook pages for the U-M Class of 2016, there are several students reporting that they don’t have housing or room assignments yet. So you are not alone. Do not fret, all freshmen who followed the correct housing application procedures and deadlines are guaranteed on-campus housing, so there’s no need to feel anxious about it. I’m not sure why this happens but I think it’s normal and that it all gets sorted out eventually.

Thank you too for responding! I don’t have a facebook so I would not have known to look there. But the fact that you say there are others in the same situation really does help me to not feel so stressed and like she’s the only one who has not heard anything. It just seems so strange and unfair to still not know going into the second week of August…But thank you for the info!

not to scare you or anything, but there is a housing shortage right now. They closed down one dorm and another dorm with a semi major dining hall is being renovated. Your daughter will def get housing but they are probably just trying to make room or some other logistics.

My son was a freshman last year and got his assignment when we were on vacation, which was the last week of July, so it’s pretty normal. Try not to stress about it - they guarantee housing for freshman. You will find out soon enough and all of this anxiety will be forgotten :)

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who took the time to reply. I do feel a little better and more reassured!
