I don’t know that attending a summer program makes you more attractive to that school. BUT - if they are run by the people who will eventually run the actual auditions - your kid gets a chance to know that person for more than 5 min in the audition - show them their work ethic, teachability etc. Now, I suppose that could be a problem too- if a kid was a diva, or lazy etc, the school would learn that in the summer. But overall- I have to assume that them knowing you better would be a helpful thing.
I agree that it gives you no leg up. Most summer programs take many more students than the school program will accept, so it is impossible for all to get accepted. Plus, audition pool for MT program will be much larger than summer program, so much stiffer competition (no matter how talented your summer class is, there will always be someone more or equally as talented is what I told my S). The odds are just not in your favor to count on that acceptance.
I also want to caution allowing your child to attend the summer program of the school they LOVE and dream about. It was my biggest regret of the pre audition process. My S came home with heart emojis in his eyes for his dream school after spending time there. As much as he loved it before, it almost became an obsession. I wanted to kick myself for my stupidity. If your child only has a preference or a strong liking for a school, it shouldn’t matter, but if your child has been dreaming daily of a school… AVOID THE SUMMER PROGRAM! There are too many choices (and he had other options) to put your kid in this situation.
D got an Academic Acceptance from Montclair yesterday. Too bad she didn’t get in the MT program.
Boo! :((
To those who auditioned for Montclair at Moonifieds and received the “you have advanced to the next phase” interest email afterwards - have you heard anything from them since? The department website says decisions are usually made within 3 weeks, and it’s been over 3 months now. I have seen posts from a couple of days ago saying acceptances are being emailed. We haven’t heard anything yet…
@DefyingGravity2 My D got that email from Montclair and have received academic acceptance and scholarship info, but no word yet on the artistic decision. She is also still waiting patiently on Point Park, Pace, & Texas Tech, that were all final auditions at Moonifieds.
We’re waiting on Wright State and Arizona still. Although it sounds like offers went out for Arizona. We haven’t heard anything here yet.
@KelviVan Point Park notifies everyone all at once by email mid-March. Last year the date was March 15. The Ides of March. Creepy LOL.
Point park notify date is march 17 they told us on campus
Have the Arizona offers gone out?
@theaterwork Sigh. Okay, Push it to the back of my mind for another three weeks! Thank you.
@KelviVan yes saint patricks day! If nothing else if the result isn’t what you were hoping for you can drink green beer! Lol
LOL @theaterwork! Green beer and corned beef beats the Ides of March any day. BAL to everyone! My PPU girl is home for a couple of days on spring break now before heading into NYC to stay with friends and do a few auditions for summer work and take some drop in classes at BDC.
Has anyone heard from Texas State? Thanks
According to Kaitlin the last round of auditions was this past weekend and they were meeting on Monday (today) to start the selection process, so I don’t think any acceptances have gone out.
Sorry I meant Texas Tech! Has anyone heard from Texas Tech!
My D auditioned on campus for TTU in February. They were originally told that acceptances would go out Feb 15th, but she emailed Dean Nolan to ask a question two weeks ago and he told her it would be closer to mid March.
Thanks @Mommadrama76. Waiting is so hard.
I know! That is actually my D’s top choice because she loves the school. It’s pretty daunting knowing they are only accepting six kids total. She is freaking out.
We are still waiting on four schools that my D had final auditions for at Moonifieds - Texas Tech, Pace, Montclair and Point Park. It seems like years since those auditions…
