Yeah, sorry i misunderstood you on the bird flu issue. I didn't read carefully when you said: "heard it hasnt reached the south, which is good. With chickens roaming about in the populated streets of lagos... " sorry..

I was in ISI actually, the sec school in UI, but of course i knew many students and experienced life there...i have a close friend in Yola - ABTI and lots in Covenant. Well, I can say UI still has a lot of prestige, but as it is federally funded, standards have really fallen, but man, it has a wonderful community of students - the smart, the musically minded, the artistic, etc. a truly vibrant student community in all respects. and it's college of medicine [UCH] is the best in West africa and among top three in africa, if not the best.

Yola seems very solid, truly international with staff from all over the world. As it is based on the american system, quite good. it's coming up...all dorms are wired, and all students are given laptops free. about $6000/annum, making it the most expensive uni in nigeria to date.

covenant has too many rules, more like a sec school, no offence, but the students themselves are complaining. no mobile phones, etc as of last year. Academics are taken seriously, but at what level? dorms are wired as well. I've been to covenant, but the problem is they take everyone who applies, we do an exam, yes, but it is of no value. a very intelligent friend of mine who attends found the academics dull and boring, although that was first year. but these guys mean business, and very soon, they'll overtake the oldies.

the major problem with most of these private unis is that they are profit making institutions. they shouldn't be...
