Hi.
I hope I didn't make this thread earlier than I am supposed to.
I was actually supposed to apply last year but I got VERY sick and was medically evacuated to South Africa for treatment. I just had my last surgery yesterday and am finally on the road to recovery.
I have my transcripts already ready and my extracurriculars have already been listed in the order i'd like to present them.
My transcript is All A+'s except Urdu and Islamic Studies. I hope that doesnt matter too much to US colleges.
I'm going to sit for the ACT on June 8th and SAT II Bio, Chem and Physics on May 4th AND SAT II Literature and Math I on June 1st. I already sat for Bio, Chem and Physics and managed to get decent scores (not brilliant at all) without studying because I was near-death sick. I'm working really hard to study for all these tests.
Has anyone else started first?

Oh and I'm typing this from the Nursing station in my hospital in Johannesburg. (feels good to be well again)

“Evacuated” ? if you don’t mind, then could you specify your illness? Because evacuation is pretty extreme and I don’t think its even done nowdays…unless ofcourse, you have the plague, lol

Well I had severe acute Biliary Pancreatitis and yes, I was dying. And Unicef evacuated me. My mother works in Unicef, Nigeria so…they evacuated me. Call Donald Gordon Medical Institute in Johannesburg if you have any doubts.

Well my essay will definitely incorporate this experience but it won’t just be about this. Maybe about how the experience changed me or something like that. Haven’t thought about it yet…

^^ not really working on it yet. I mean I’m studying for AP bio as I type this but don’t have any essay or letters of recs ready yet. Just grouping up…slowly :D

Hey guys new here. Prolly applying next year and i’ve decided to major in computer science, so i’ve started working on my application. So far:

-done with SAT1
-studying for sat2
-already done 2 internships(2 months each )
-took part in hackathon
-participated in 5 MUNS(director in 2)
-know german(certified)
-working as an android developer

(y) to ahtesham’s advice. Do the things you love, standardized testing, make a good college list (don’t have a 0 safety school list) and you’re fine…

Has anyone started working on the commonapp essay yet. I’m really bummed about the fact that they’re not letting us write the essay on a topic of our choice this year…

Im working on the draft right now. I have a 20 college list right now. Working on narrowing that down. Applying Columbia ED (Everyone’s allowed to dream, OK!) and am sitting for the ACT with writing on the Sep 15 test date. Waiting for schools to open so I can begin the hunt for recs and that is all!
I missed my shot at applying last year due to severe health issues so I’ve been waiting for the 2013-14 commonapp for a LONG time as you can see from the fact that I made this thread ridiculously early.
Where are you applying?
