yeah i have my personal statement written completely...but it's 850ish words, so I need to cut it down with the help of my counselor/teachers this fall.
the thing i am worried about the most actually is the short description of the EC i love the most. i dunno which one to pick! i'm in debate, dance, music, foreign language honor society, academic team...ugg

I think it makes a lot more sense to do the essays during the summer...i mean you have enough stress during the fall with school work, SATs (if ur taking them), ECs, interviews, etc.

norskvkng07, are you really Norwegian? Totally off-topic, but it's nice to see some Scandinavians representing (I'm Swedish)... ;)

Yes in fact I am. I was born in Norway, and later moved to the US, now in North Carolina. But the funny thing is that my dad is from Texas, so I am a Norwegian-American dual citizen...

Crap. I feel so behind... Yet I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of 99% of the incoming seniors in my city right now.

I found senior year difficult, and it chewed up a lot of my free time. If you can get your essay and a list done early, you should. It makes it senior year that much easier, and quite a bit more fun due to the slackage you can get.

I was born in Sweden and moved to DC later on. Sadly, I have no American relatives... so for admissions purposes I'm "international". :(

^ UChicago essays :) There's an essay about the importance of "string", a japanese adage (I think?), making a question and "destroying it", and one based on this poem.

"The instructor said,
Go home and write
a page tonight.
And let that page come out of you
Then, it will be true."

;) Looks pretty interesting. (of course, I'm a total humanities geek, so disregard me haha)

I really like the last one, with the poem.

edit: Looking at the page, I realized it's actually the first one... and also that those are still last year's topics. "The essays for students who will be entering Chicago in the 2007-2008 school year will be released on July 12. Check back soon!"

Isn't that for last year's though?
I just found the site minutes before I came here.
And whoever said that UChicago's essay topics are interesting is right. My favorite was "destroy a question with an answer." Except it's hard as hell to write about.

Oh, lol. I was mistaken. Ah well, but they're infamous for their quirky essays! Thanks for correcting me :)

Guys, it's summer. Just take a break and enjoy yourselves. ;)

Yes, because we're all going to want to bust our asses in the fall...

I'm all twitchy because I can't fill up 12 hours of free time =( So I'll start those essays soon... yeah I have no good ideas though. Blah

Writing essays is hardly busting your ass...
There is so much to do during the summer, I dont know how ppl complain of free time. Get a job. =p =D

It's not just the fact that it take stime though, it's the principle of doing unecessary school work during summer...

It's not unnecessary, though. It has to be accomplished sometime, right? Why not be the early bird that gets the worm? (to be totally clich

Do puzzles then. But yeah, it's definitely possible to balance everything that's going on in your world and write the masterpiece essay of your life during the school year. So seriously just relax, you're going to need all the energy from now to get through the school year. And precocious hang in there, I totally know where you're coming from, I had work 3 days/wk, plus 5 AP's and the most EC's out of any one in the school so just hang in there and good luck with everything :)

Yeah, I have a rough draft of the main essay. I want to order Harry Bauld's Essay Writing book though, to see what I can improve and what not.

Yeah, I definitely don't like the CA essays so I picked one of the U of C topics and that'll be my "topic of your choice."

Writing my "why smith?" essay was soooo easy. Love that school. :)

I suck the mostest at writing so I'm expecting the essays to suck a lot... and I have no car =( so my summer = tennis, tv, tennis, tv, nap, tennis, tv, etc... so I guess that's why I feel like I need to do it now

I need to do it now because I'm never gonna have the time, energy, or motivation to do it once school starts.
