I think only 8 or 9 kids from my school took it today. I don’t think we’re supposed to discuss it, but it was fairly hard. I answered 13 questions, though I think I got one or two wrong. Maybe I’ll try again on the AMC 12B.

Took it today, don’t discuss specifics until all time zones have passed.

I think they purposely made it (AMC 12) harder this year so that the more competitive selection criteria for USAMO (now only 250 will be chosen from AMC 12, used to be 330) can still have a similar index as before. In addition, this allows the aime score to have relatively more weight than before since the amc points are harder to get than before.

Oh no. :)

lol, but Cat, that means average-at-math people like me won’t have a chance! I’d always thought of AIME as a group for non-completely-suckish people, sort of an elimination round for the purely lame people who insisted on trying AMC anyway. And finding myself amazingly awesome at math at my high school, I assumed I would only struggle slightly on AMC. I even got over 120 on some of the older practice tests lol.

This year’s…much harder. Hmm…I guess you actually have to be good?

Dang these low average high school standards. They make me feel overly smart and then I get reality checks like this kind of AMC math…it’s…grrr…

They still take the same porportion of people for AIME: 5% for 12 and 1% for 10
I think maybe the AIME cutoff will be lower this year.

Ohhh, why thank you! :)

That makes me feel so much…less pathetic lol. Okay, then. Good luck to you!
