Hey guys,
I'm trying to go to an international affairs program over the summer, but total costs for the trip would be about $6000. Are there any groups or organizations that would contribute to lessen the financial burden? My family is lower middle class. My academics are up to par, in case the organizations give aid out based on merit (or if it's a factor).

Thanks!

First of all, figure out whether the program is really worth $6000 or if the organization is just trying to make money. Talk to people who’ve attended before, and figure out whether it’s good enough to pay $6000. 6000 bucks is a really steep amount for any summer program. You might figure out it’s not worth it, and there a lot of summer programs out there that are less expensive or based on merit that you may want to look into.

If you do look into all these factors and decide it’s worth it, see if the organization itself offers any scholarships. If they don’t say so on their website, call them and ask. You could also try working to earn money, fundraising yourself by holding sales and asking family/friends, and also asking service clubs such as Rotary and Kiwanis to see if they’d be willing to pitch in.
