I consider myself a pretty decent student. I get all A's, involved in extracurriculars, etc. Probably not stellar like some of you guys, but I was invited to a governor school.

I'm a junior, and I'm currently thinking about my summer before senior year. It's really my last opportunity to do something to distinguish myself on college apps. However, the issue is that a lot of summer programs cost thousands of dollars, and honestly, I just can't afford that. The governor's school was for sciences, which I"m not terribly interested in, so I didn't go for that.

I've thought about taking some community college courses, but transportation would be tough for me. So CC, are there any programs that you know that I should look at? Maybe some that are paid for? Or that have scholarships? Or maybe I should look to volunteering?

I suggest you look around this thread at other posts. There are many that people discuss. Some include Bank of America student leader, TASP, and many others offer aid. Just look around.

do Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science or Pre-College. SAMS is free & easier to get into if you are URM and Pre-C has FA if you cannot pay the full price. SAMS is totally awesome, sincerely.

If you’re jewish, look into Bronfman Youth Fellowships
Also, High School Diplomats is a great program, but the deadline is january 8th. the application was too terrible, and there is a recommendation, but it’s only a form so you could probably get a teacher to fill it out for you quickly.
there are some great research programs out there, look into colleges and NIH, etc.
CIEE scholarship to south korea is all expenses paid, including travel. the application comes out in april

Youth Policy Summit is an academic leadership program offered on college campuses across the country. It’s a fun opportunity to learn about policy making, live on a college campus, and get involved in a public policy issue. They offer scholarships for students from low-income backgrounds. Check out the website here: [Youth Policy Summit](http://www.youthpolicysummit.org/)

Check out the St. Albans School of Public Service in DC ([St. Albans School](http://www.schoolofpublicservice.org)). A fair amount of my classmates had financial aid, from what they said. Awesome program focusing on public service and public policy, I wish I could do it again this summer lol!
