Basically we present a proposal for a research project at the start of the semester, which either gets accepted or rejected by the school's academic committee. If your proposal's approved, you complete a research project over the course of the semester, usually totaling 60-80 hrs, with a research paper, a leadership component, and*some benefit the research would have. You do the research with the subject loosely based on an non-AP class you have (if you're in orchestra, for instance, you could research how music affects study habits) and if your final project is approved you get AP weight for this class.

Would this count as an extracurricular, since it's so closely tied to school and is basically done to boost GPA with extra weight? Should I include it in additional info? In activities? Not at all? It's not graduate-level research and it doesn't get published, obviously.
