School Research projects an extracurricular?

Our school has an Independent Research program, where you propose a research project for a non-AP class. You can choose whatever subject you want as long as it's even tangentially related to the class, and if the proposal gets accepted you complete a big 70-80 hr research project (completely independently) on whatever topic you choose. If the committee likes your project, you get AP weight for your elective.

Since it's done to increase weight, I was skeptical about putting it under "activities." Still, it's not a class, it's done totally independently, and you have to undergo a selective selection process (less than half proposals are approved). It'll show up on my transcript, but I want the adcoms to know why I have AP weight for my non-AP classes. Should I just put it under additional info?

Can someone help me with this?

Bump. 10 char

I think putting it in the Additional Information makes sense as you could give better information about it and the topic you researched on. I really hate the Common AP activity boxes as I think they are too limiting for the exact example you gave. I would do something like “Independent Research Program: Completed 80 hours of research and presented paper on Bioremediation resulting in AP credit for Biology class. My paper detailed how bioremedation could be used to make the nation’s food system safer.” Totally made up but gives you an idea of where to go.
