I understand that Harvard has removed the ability to upload a resume on the common app, but is it better or worse to email in a resume? I’m hearing mixed opinions. My resume adds a good amount to my app in terms of awards and research, and the 10 slots on the common app just weren’t enough. I don’t, however, want to be repetitive or annoying. Thoughts?
If Harvard wanted a resume, they would have ask for one!
You should NOT email or upload a resume, as it will be duplicative of what you have already written on your Common Application. For example: Did you list your awards and honors on the CA? How about your research? If you had more than 10 EC slots to fill, I can almost predict you had a laundry list of activities: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marjorie-hansen-shaevitz/extra-curricular-activities-college-admission_b_3040217.html
That said, every applicant should bring a one-page resume to their alumni interview just in case they are asked for one: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1667731-college-interviews-resume-vs-activities-list-p2.html
I would highly recommend against emailing a resume. There is no need to do so, and it may come across as overeager.
My son listed his significant accomplishments (state to international competitions) in the “Additional Information” section of CA that were not duplicated elsewhere in CA.
